Too hard to point out an obvious yet imo. Gotta get a couple weeks into the reg season. Roster changed, coaching changes etc will influence past from present
Oilers will be tough cuz we'll be seeing 6.5s all season

Devils huge. They have a ton of speed and scoring but the goaltending is still a bit questionable with Vanecek and Schmid and their high risk play results in a lot chances both ways. These are not the Jacques Lemaire neutral zone trapping Devils.

Wondering if we will see an uptick in posted totals from the books this year. I think we were creeping into some 7.5/8 territory last year with teams like Oil and Cats.
"Goaltending is 90 percent of the game, unless you don't have it. Then it's 100 percent."-

Will be interesting. 5.5 seems to be a thing of the past. Standard 6.0 a lot and the standard 6.5 with higher scoring teams and 7.0 with 2 high scoring teams
Sometimes adjusted by the books for injuries/hot goalies

Remember the days of the 4.5s... like every nyr vs NJ or vs isles was that... and the unders hit like crazy

Last year I made some coin betting Sharks and Oilers overs. The days of the 5.0 are long gone. When I first started spreadsheeting overs in 2017, they were still prevalent. By 2019 they were pretty rare. With teams like the Sharks and Oilers, it’s hard to avoid O/Us of 7 now. Although last year, totals of 7 started off 0-6 to the under if I remember correctly.
Teams I was wary of for overs because of fears the bad teams might not score, or the good teams would shut down their opponents:

Reminds of a pre-game interview with Colin Campbell when he coached the Rangers in the late-90s. NYR playing Buffalo and reporter asked him what to expect. Colin replied "probably another soccer game." Yep, times have changed. Another reason I don't bet unders often is the number of empty net goals. Teams sometimes pull their goalies down 3-0 or 4-0 with 7 or 8 minutes to play. What looked like a sure under suddenly not so much. So it's not just the rule changes leading to more goals, it's the philosophy of some of these coaches.

I never bet unders in any sport..it's either over or no play. Been like this for like last 10 years... I swear that I lost every 9 outta 10 unders
And I hate rooting for no goals/ hits/ TDs becuase I like watching high scoring back n forth games. Then someone scores then stressing it doesn't happen more. Stressing penalties etc. Not fun for me

Honestly, I'm not watching most of the games I bet. It's more of a numbers game for me. Sure, the Sharks/Oilers games where you anticipate record goals, I'll watch. And I would also watch the Bruins just shut teams down last year on the extreme unders. But tbh I'd rather have a winning bet than watch the game.
I guess I've had enough NBA late buckets ruin bets, to where I can have total apathy to NHL results anymore. All that being said, the late overs are clearly a newer trend and definitely should be taken into consideration when placing bets. A lot has changed since 2016.
