    from WhoWins.com

When leading a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 2-games-nil, the Pittsburgh Penguins have a series record of 15-2 with an active nine-series winning streak and a Game 3 record of 12-5. When trailing a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 2-games-nil, the Washington Capitals have a series record of 1-5 and a Game 3 record of 1-5. the one Capitals win was over the New York Rangers in the 2009 NHL first round

in the Crosby vs Ovechlin era the Capitals are 1-5 when playing @ Pittsburgh in the playoffs

Penguins opened as a -130 moneyline favorite @ Westgate BUT now -125 as of 8:30pm Sunday night. nothing yet on the status of forward Patric Hornqvist, who took a shot off the ankle in game two and did NOT return

Capitals goalie Braden Holtby was pulled after the 2nd period of game two after allowing 3 Penguins goals on 9 shots in the period. in the 1st round vs the Maple Leafs he allowed 4 GA's in 3 of the 6 games losing two of those BUT did have 1 GA games 5 & 6 both 2-1 OT wins. he is 4-4 this post season losing his last two

"The Flower" "bloomed in the spring" game two with 16 saves in the 1st period to keep the game 0-0 at the end of that period. he has allowed 2 GA's or less in 5 of the Penguins 7 post season games so far and is 6-1

one thing is for sure. the Penguins can NOT come out "flat" in the 1st period Monday like in game two. they were VERY lucky they were NOT down 2 or 3 goals after that period. they do that AGAIN in game three and they could get BURNED

btw BOTH teams tend to score in bunches when they get it going. the total is 5 1/2  OVER -120

If  I had to bet it I would take the Pens here, but I will just watch and if Pens win I will play a chase on them closing it out. I really don't think Wash can come back from 3-0 or even 3-1 so when it gets there I will be in large on Pens. Some days is better to just watch the game and wait for a better spot.

I don't know about laying an "egg" but I agree with this. A split in PIT and then PIT finishes of WSH in Washington game 5.

I've compiled random stats from playoffs 2015+2016 (and 2017), just for fun and with tons of confimation bias in it probably, but here goes (and pardon format, errors and disclaimer: Do not use this):

    Summary:

W-L for teams up 2-0 in series in Game 3 are : 8-8

Game 3 in 2-0 series going to OT (Y/N): 8-8
    At 5-goal line, Over-Push-Under is: 6-1-9

    Capitals+Penguins Game 3's (2015-2016 their series included):

Over-Push-Under (at 5): 1-1-4 (the push was when they met)

So, random stats says few goals with both the dog and the OT being equally good, so a 2-2 result and since trend this year is 2-0 leader wins, it will be Pittsburgh ML also.

This year so far, Game 3's in 2-0 series:

Pittsburgh WON game 3, 5-4 on the road (OT win)

Nashville WON game 3, 3-2 on the road (OT win)
St. Louis WON game 3, 3-0 at home

Anaheim WON game 3, 5-4 on the road (OT win)

Edmonton LOST game 3, 3-6 at home

Last year 6 teams (not counting Penguins and Capitals) went down 0-2 in the series, all of them won game 3. In 2015, only 1 of 5 teams won Game 3 after being down 0-2.

    Of 11 Game 3's, Over-Push-Under (at 5g) was 3-1-8, 5 of 11 went into overtime.

    2016:
    Round 1:

Detroit, won Game 3 at home 2-0 (vs. Tampa)

Minnesota, won Game 3 at home 5-3 (vs. Dallas)
Anaheim, won Game 3 on road 3-0 (vs. Nashville)
Los Angeles, won game 3 on road 2-1 (OT, vs. San Jose)

    Round 2:

Nashville, won game 3 at home 4-1 (vs. San Jose)

    Finals:

San Jose, won game 3 at home 3-2 (OT, vs. Pittsburgh)

    2015:

    Round 1:

Ottawa, LOST Game 3 at home 1-2 (OT, vs. Montreal)

Winnipeg, LOST Game 3 at home 4-5 (OT, vs. Anaheim)

    Round 2:

Montreal, LOST Game 3 on road 1-2 (vs. Tampa)
Minnesota, LOST Game 3 at home 0-1 (vs. Chicago)

Calgary, won Game 3 at home 4-3 (OT, vs. Anaheim)

For Penguins and Capitals last 2 years, neither been down 0-2 in series. Of their respective Game 3's, a total of 5, the Over/Under (at 5) was 1-4. When they met in second round, Game 3 was a push (at 5).

    2015:

    Capitals:

    Rd 1, Game 3 (1-1 after first 2) – Roadgame ended 1-1Rd 2, Game 3 (1-1 after first 2) – Homegame ended 1-0

    Penguins

    Rd 1, Game 3 (1-1 after first 2) – Homegame ended 1-2

    2016:

    Capitals:

    Rd 1, Game 3 (2-0 after first 2) – Roadgame ended 6-1

    Penguins:

    Rd 1, Game 3 (1-1 after first 2) – Homegame ended 3-1

They met Round 2, Game 3 (split 1-1) ended 3-2

good point AND the Penguins moneyline down to -110 @ Cantor Gaming Monday morning. probably because per https://twitter.com/penguins/status/859064811325460487 Coach Sullivan on the players who missed morning skate (Dumoulin, Hagelin, and Hornqvist): "They will all be game-time decisions." Hainsey participated in the moring skate after taking an Ovechkin shot off the helmet late in game two.

    https://twitter.com/PensInsideScoop/status/859054399221616642 projected Penguins lines:
    Guentzel-Crosby-Rust
    Kunitz-Malkin-Kessel
    Wilson-Bonino-Sheary
    Kuhnhackl-Cullen-Rowney

I am with Potsie...just watching. Caps need it as that is obvious, but Pens at home with that crowd it will be rocking. I think if the Pens survive the 1st period, it will spell trouble for the Caps.
