Why is american football so boring?

They have tried many times to get soccer in the states .But the huge  playing fields ,the low scoring , the girlish hugging and kissing after   the rare goal, and worst of all boring to bet on are just some of the reasons the sport after high school looses its appeal ......

The NFL gets worse and worse every year. The only reason I watch the damn games is because I bet on them. I loved playing football in hs, but holy garbage are these games tough to watch. Always some dumb fukc committing a stupid penalty or a ref throwing a phantom flag, and don't get me started on the roughing the passer flags these days. God forbid you brush up against Tom Brady. They'll throw a flag if you fart in his general direction.

Football is the ultimate team sport. It's also the most strategic. There's a game within the game at each position as well as the play calling. Having played in college, I appreciate the depth of the game. Most NFL fans share that same appreciation. The game is involved. Because of this you have all the analysts and shows dissecting matchups. Are they talking heads? Sure. Are there too many of them? Sure. But it sells. Game analysis isnt hurting the sport. It enhances it and plays into the buildup. Football is great because any team can win on any given Sunday. It comes down to gameplan and execution with the best athletes in 5sec bursts. It's not a marathon. Every down is a sprint. It's an exciting sport. I like the world cup but soccer to me isn't exciting. Shots on goal are exciting but real scoring chances happen so few and far between. The game itself is not terribly involved either. If I didn't bet cup matches I probably wouldn't watch. Don't get me started on commercials. It is what it is. No one likes them but they are necessary, provides a huge revenue stream. Enjoy the big game.

not an issue with soccer that said let's get real.....

soccer players fake injuries, football players get injuries and play

you'll never see a football player dive in the end zone for a call like a soccer player dives in the penalty area

you'll never see a football player cry whine act like he just lost his mother when he got clipped on the anke, and suddenly when he gets to the sideline he's begging to get back in

there are no bigger p****** in the world than soccer players.  maybe male figure skaters, but they continue to skate when they fall and try to act like nothing happened.

most soccer players are slim.  most football players have weight.

it's a completely different game.

in the end, there is no comparison.

I grew up playing/ watching soccer even into my high school days it was my sport, but American football is so much more interesting to me, so much more fun to watch than soccer, its not comparable. Problem with soccer is that defenses have the upper hand and most of the game happens in the midfield, only Barcelona and Munich plays or used to play the beautiful game like it meant to be played. Soccer has too many unimportant leagues and tournements around the world, only champions league is worth watching, and that's the only thing that really teams get up for.  Honestly to me these sports are both boring to watch unless you have money on these games.

I grew up playing and watching football.  The games are full of timeouts, replays, commercials, and standing around.  Football is absolutely BORING!    I have attended many NFL games and college games including the Rose Bowl.  Most of the time there is no action.  Most of the players fit into the obese category.  It is hard to imagine how anyone can cosider someone an athlete that weighs 350 pounds and has a 60 inch waistline.  Many of the thugs that play football have been arrested for rape, child abuse, and murder. Only a coward would beat up their wife or child.  I finally got tired of having football shoved down my throat and have not watched or attended a game in years.  One of the best decisions I ever made.

I think it'd probably help if you grew up watching the sport and learned the strategy.  I never watched soccer as a kid, mainly because it wasn't shown in the U.S.  Now I watch and I find it pretty entertaining.  However, I still don't really understand how the formations match up against each other and what gaps are exposed on the field. 

It doesn't help that the NFL keeps sending the worst damn teams to London to play a game.  That isn't going to impress the viewers.  Give them a game with elite or good teams and let them see an exciting football game.

Ya you were very right that American football is boring. It's the same teams with mostly the same players.At least in soccer you got club teams in one country versing another club team in another country and there the World Cup with countries versing countries and players switch clubs mostly every four years. Is that in football no just the same boring teams and players . With football having all these commercials makes it all about money with soccer there none expect in half time. While in soccer the game mostly keeps moving in football it stops every minute which is very boring. In soccer you need skill in football you just need to be fat and be a brute or run very fast and catch a football which does not really need a lot of skill one example is after Usain Bolt was done with the Olympics nfl teams were asking him if he join as a wide receiver. Bolt never played football in he's life this proves you just need to be fast to be a wide receiver no skill.  I would rather watch a sport with skill. In football the field goals are a joke any soccer player can do it. Would rather see a Rotherham game then the Super Bowl.

Sports are always more interesting to watch when you've grown up playing and watching them, and understand the nuances.

Football is a very strategic sport.  It is about the only sport where field position means something. 

For most casual fans, a 1 yard run is boring, but if you really know football, there is a lot going on.

But the TV money has got too big, which means way too many commericials.  DVR helps a lot though, and so does Red Zone....

I actually prefer watching European sports (but not soccer except the World Cup) because they have so many fewer commercials.  Skiing, bobsledding, cycling, track and field, AFL, etc...

World Darts Championship and NBA playoff basketball are my two favorite times to watch my favorite sports.  I never watch soccer the game is not interesting at all.
