    @rosswin97

     If it's so right to receive, why does every college team want to go on defense if they win the coin toss in overtime? You need to watch more football.

     Yep, that's why college teams defer, and Shanahan messed up. You're exactly right, you get 4 downs and know what they have to do.

    their OT is different you cant just walk off with a score. Im told the new nfl rules are if your score is matched then the next score wins in that case I want the ball first its a no brainer

    Shanny didn't trust his defense late hence getting the ball first

     You're crazy, a TD does not win on the first possession in college. The other team gets to match it. What the hell is going on in this forum, do people watch the games?

    can you read nowhere did I say that. I stated the opposite that in college each score has a chance to be matched, but the new nfl rules Im told that if the first score is matched then the next score wins automatically. In that case how can you not want to receive first.

    Does anyone know the new rules? Chris Berman just said SF could have won it with a TD on their first possession in OT

    You would always want to choose to receive with the playoff OT rules.  If you score and your opponent matches your score, then you get the ball back for a chance at a walk off win.

    @rosswin97

     If that is the case, then you're right, but why would they give the receiving team twice to score and not the other team to match their second score. That seems odd.

    I like this OT rule better than a possible tie in regular season.

    You get two chances to stop them. It's fair and the best rule.

    because its OT they want to end this thing already and find a winner we've already played 60 min. if you keep matching and time expires do we play a 2nd OT? the college game still allows giving a chance to match the score but they changed it up and you do something a little different after a couple of series. some of those college OT games would go 4 overtimes

    Booger McFarland said Shanahan made a mistake taking the ball first in overtime. Whatever his opinion is worth to anyone.

    I didn't know that the Super Bowl OT rules were different. Even so, i don't have an issue with the decision to take the ball. Especially when you drive down to the 9. What bugged me was they attempted zero passes to the end zone.

    But they lost the game with all the other mistakes.

    The first drive fumble, the fumbled punt, the no points off the INT, and the missed PAT were the plays that lost them the game, not the OT decision to take the ball. They continually left the door open when they had chances to shut it.

    Last year Chiefs were about to be down 2 scores, Hurts fumbles and it gets returned and suddenly game is tied. Last game Flowers is about to make it a 3 point game, fumbles at the goal line. They win without scoring a point in the 2nd half. Today they only scored one TD all game and it was off a turnover.

    You simply cannot turn the ball over vs the Chiefs. You have to play mistake free. And when the Chiefs make a mistake you have to capitalize. Throwing a pick at the start of the 2nd half should have doomed the Chiefs, but the 9ers went 3 and out.

    Mahomes had just driven them down to the doorstep at the end of regulation, it was their best drive all game, so I wouldn't be itching to give him the ball again right away when he's just found a bit of rhythm.
