Nice write up and research, but most of those situations wouldnt compare to this one (GB without their QB against a team/QB operating on another level - in front of their home crowd).

Just dont see how GB +14 is a good play, but best of luck.

You're right.  This one is even more extreme.  Most of the teams that got walloped by the favorites on my list were punching bags to begin with.  The Patriots annihilated the 9-2 Jets and the 9-3 Bears.  Imagine how much it took out of them to outscore those two teams by a combined 81-10.

There's not much he can do here.  He'll make sure his team doesn't get too overconfident against a QB with virtually no experience, but aside from that, all he can do is gameplan as usual.  Belichick is a smart guy.  He knows that barking at his team will not work this week.  How could he anyways, after such recent excelllence?  All he wants is to make sure his team doesn't become so sure of themselves that they get sloppy and blow the whole game.  Belichick has been around long enough that he doesn't need my statistics to inform him that this is a vulnerable spot for his team.

That has already been accounted for in the pointspread.....by 7 points!  The Patriots were going to be a 6.5-point favorite with Aaron Rodgers starting.  With him ruled out, the line was re-set at -13.5.

Really? Comparing Flynn to either of those QB's is rediculous...
Flynn's start against the Lions netted him a measly 3 pts. Just sayin'...

And it's partly on the backs of all those December wins of years past that the Patriots have built up their well-deserved reputation, and that's partly why they're a big, fat 14-point favorite today.

Think about it, Pats backers - given the nearly decade-long history of excellence in the Brady/Belichick Era, and given the last few weeks of going beyond even the the Patriots' own benchmark for excellence, do you actually believe that the oddsmakers are giving you any sliver of value today???  No, they're not.  In fact they're bending over for the privilege of betting on the Patriots this week.  The oddsmakers can't physically stop the Patriots from going out tonight and winning this game by more than 14 points, but they can definetely make sure you pay an unreasonable theoretical price for betting that it will happen.

Really?  Matt Flynn replacing Aaron Rodgers and you think the difference in the spread is at most 1.5 points?  Wow.  Well anyways, the early line with Rodgers playing had New England -6.5.  The official Matt Flynn line came out yesterday at -13.5.

this looks like one of those games that goes to show why trends can't tell the whole story... when it's all said and done, sometimes the game is really played on the field (and not in the trends)...

the big issues... 1) weather... 2) Flynn... 3) Belichek's propensity for running up the score...

This game reminds me of the 2007 game at home against the Iggles when AJ Feely started in place of McNabb. Flynn should be much better with a weeks worth of starter reps. LOL, no way I am laying 14. You have to respect the Pats home dominance, I don't see any value with the Pack ML, especially with McCarthy on the other sideline. Although, you could look at like this though: Do you think the Pats will lose at home again this year? If you do, then I guess you bet it?  Does that make sense? I'm high.

You all realize that the Patriots have the 2nd worst pass defense in the NFL (only to Houston).  Matt Flynn was put in a tough position last week against a hungry division rival.  Give him a week to prep and an offensive line that works to protect him and he will put up a few scores.

Just off the top of my head I know Shaun Hill threw for almost 300 yards against them, Colt McCoy game manged their victory by making no huge mistakes, hell even Ryan Fitzpatrick had a good game with 250 yards and a couple scores.

It's not out of the realm of possibility that the Packers defense brings their A game and Flynn throws a couple of scores.

I think we are looking at a 24-17 type of game. Pats won't lose this game, but they have absolutely no reason to run it up, especially ending the season with 2 division rivals with revenge games.  Make no mistake about it Buffalo and Miami are better than they were earlier this season and I predict one of those teams get the outright win.  But for tonight the Pats win a close one.

MrBator you have convinced me with your stats and a little research myself that the Packers are a great value spot here.

I said yes to your question a couple pages ago but I wouldn't want to go searching for that either.  Seahawks +6 -105 and ML +230.

+800 is worth a shot, and that's currently available in Las Vegas.
