So our friend Skip Bayless calls Patyon Manning...
... and so he remains, now 9-11 all time in the playoffs.
Was he horrible? Are we pinning this loss wholly on him?
No, of course not.
But after much hullaballoo and chest-thumping by Bronco fans, the fact remains that Payton Manning has a talent for putting up huge stats, going 12-4 or 13-3...
and losing early in the playoffs.
At mideseason, we wrote a blog item speculating that it looked like the Colts made a good move in letting Manning go. We took a lot of flack for that.
Now, despite an impressive run from October to December, the Broncos are going home.
We have no apologies, and, indeed, stand willing to accept them.

history (fair or not) remembers what you did in the playoffs. even dan marino always has a "but" when describing him....1 ring for peyton and 8 1 and done's.....that stigma will never leave.

as a pats homer and brady homer blah blah..manning is probably the best regular season qb ive ever seen. at least before the injury but even this year the throws that guy makes are just insane. its really incredible how he hasnt had post season succuess. im sure if we went and looked back at all the 1 and done s there would be a lot of bad luck..ie yesterday when a defense just needs to garbage itself...but still. its pretty incredible someone that good could have that little success in the postseason.

When I was laid off a few years back I looked in depth at the performances by Manning in the postseason throughout his career. He has failed miserably in the postseason.
Some time when you have a minute, look at his LAST game played every year for those years that he played in the postseason. His stats are horrible for the most part. He threw a pic in OT that led to the Ravens' winning FG. Again, you can't pin the loss on him... it's a team sport. But he continues to fail in the postseason. In his one SB run, he threw 3 TD's and 7 INT's in the entire postseason. He's a great player, but he chokes when the chips are on the line.

His last two playoff losses he did what he needed to do to win the games. This last game he drove them down and put a touchdown lead on the board, then forced Ravens to use all 3 timouts, unders 45 seconds to go 70 yards. The game is over defense go out there and protect the endzone. Defense blows it gives all momentum back to Baltimore, Denver goes from the high of winning to the low of WTF, against the Ravens with a whole new life.
2010 playoffs vs Jets He drives the Colts down for the go ahead score, the kick the ball off Cromartie takes it 65 yards and the Jets kick winning FG with no time left, I can't call that a choke job by Manning

The defense did play very poor, gave-up a 116.2 QB Passer rating to Flacco, which might have been the best of any QB l.ast weekend.
Flacco ave 9.3 yds per pass including sacks. That's piss poor defense.
Manning didn't play all that well which certainly did not help the Broncos.
QBPR for manning was only 88.3, and his ave per pass only 5.9 which is fairly poor.
His 2 int's were a killer but 1 may not have been his fault I missed that play.
I agree it's a team game and the QB probally gets to much credit and blame but Manning seems to have an uncanny knack for losing in the playoffs.
It's possible that high expectations hurt players, puts pressure on them and motives other players to want to beat them with no pressure because they are expecting to get picked apart by Manning.
I don't think there are many players who've had as high of expectations put on them as Manning has.

Was that Manning on the field playing safety with 30 sec left ?
No,but it was Manning ith the ball 3 times in overtime with a chance to win the game and once again as usual with him in the playoffs,he didn't get the job done. Not only did he not get the job done,he threw an inexcusable pick to set the Ravens up. Terrible decision to throw across your body to the middle of the field. That is a rookie mistake, not a hall of famer mistake. Manning is a top qb of all time, but is the biggest choke artist in the sport of all time. Not even debatable.
