 Purdy faced four teams that might be considered 'contenders' -- as in potential playoff teams.

The JAX game has been discussed already about his toe, etc.  But even included it shows a disparity.

SEA - Purdy a 84 QBR vs Darnold 51

JAX Purdy 56 vs Lawrence 66

IND Purdy 89 vs Rivers 51

CH Purdy 85 vs Williams 71

So, Purdy avg in those games 78.5 vs 59.75

Essentially he outplayed them by ~24%

I am not sure that is the correct way to do it either.

Just comparing how he did vs 'contenders' does not consider game situation or team's defenses.

For example, a team may not be a contender but have a very good defense or just an elite pass defense.

I think you have to include Burrow and Allen.  Jackson still is when not injured.  

So, the question is what QBs do you think are between Purdy and that group?

I'm no football guru, and I don't have my own utube channel dissecting QB play.

But you can't tell me that there isn't a more difficult QB to defend than Drake Maye. I've watched plenty of his games this year, and the eye test translates to the #'s.

#1 in epa

#1 in explosive plays

#1 in true completion percentage 

#3 in pressured completion percentage 

#6 in blitzed completion percentage 

#2 completion % vs man coverage 

#2 completion % vs zone coverage 

The last 4 in bold are quite impressive. From a defensive perspective, how the hell do you defend him?

On top of all that, his wr's have only gotten 1.91 yards of target separation this year. That's terrible. He is throwing guys open, and threading the needle on a regular basis.

Personally I think the word "elite" is thrown around wayyyyy to much these days. Like you think during the Brady era, it was Brady, Manning and Rodgers. No one else was ever part of that category. Nowadays we need to place 5-10 players in it. Elite to me means year over year success both on the stat sheet and in the win column. Purdy has what? 1 Pro Bowl? 0 All Pro's? And we are going to place him in that category?

I can't really rank them this year. QB play has been so inconsistent really. Lamar, Allen, Burrow have all been average. Trevor Lawrence has had a solid season. Is it a flash in the pan? Drake Maye - where will he be next year with his progression? Same goes with Caleb Williams. I don't believe the hype with Dak. He loves to feast on garbage teams but when he plays good squads he is non-existent. Justin Herbert is hard to gauge because he never has an offensive line but still plays well. Just look at last year. Jayden Daniels looked great. This year he was average. 

So ya you can put purdy in that group of QB's I guess. Just not elite.

 Again with the Jacksonville game haha!  So lets poo poo his 7 wins- he didnt beat Seattle good enough, Colts stink, bears stink(even tho they were 11-4), cards stink, titans stink, browns defense stinks(even tho they're #2 in the nfl with the future all time sack leader which purdy masterfully avoided all day), panthers stink.  But lets keep harping on that 1 game in September where he couldn't plant his foot.  Got it!

Yea hes the only qb in the history with a stud rb lol.  Is Burrow only good because if his top tier weapons?  Is Stafford only good because of his?  Or do we only use this excuse with purdy?

And no. I am not looking at the teams that are a combined 37-59 on the year.

You sound like Cowboy's fans justifying Dak being elite.

If Purdy is this good, why has he never been an MVP candidate?

 The word 'elite' may be thrown around too much.  But 'all-time great' would apply to those others you mentioned.  

An 'elite' to me is a legitimate long-time franchise starter that even has a legitimate shot at the HoF.  You can include Rivers, Luck, Ryan, Brees, Wilson, Roethlisberger, and even Cousins at times, and even Prescott now.

It is hard to use the word 'elite' to be just the QBs that can be included in an all-time top 10 list.

These QBs, are QBs that you are simply 'not answering the phone' about a trade for them.  They are your starter and franchise guy.

So, I think most years you should have 5-6-7 guys in it.  

It is not asking if they are an all-time great.  Every year will not have a Brady, Rodgers, or Manning playing at the same time.

This is not to say they cannot have a great year or two.

In other words, Burrow, Jackson and Allen have all been injured but are still elite to me.

He literally was an mvp candidate in 2023 you bozo!  He was 3rd in mvp voting, which is considered an mvp candidate.   His 8 game pace would also have put him in mvp discussions if he played a full year, but he wouldn't have topped Stafford or maye

 Consider that Purdy leads the league in QBR with 77.6

He is 1st in PE/Play at .262

He is 1st in Positive% plays at 55.4%

He is 1st in Boom% plays at 35.9%

He is 4th in Bust% plays at 16.5%

The only other QB in the top 5 in the last two categories is Stafford.

I think this year Purdy is playing at an 'eite' level and that his career has him on a clear path to being a great franchise QB.

Yes, every QB will have a bad game or two.

That is why I pointed out even Stafford had a 26 QBR and Darnold a 25 QBR against CAR and Purdy had a 51 QBR against them.

I get that some folks do not want to like certain QBs or think they are great.  Brady had detractors, Mahomes does, Manning did, Jackson and Allen do, Burrow does.

But overall, most reasonable football folks acknowledge these guys are very good QBs.

But when the eye-test and the numbers reflect it, it becomes hard to deny it.

Purdy will always have a knock for being last-drafted and on the smaller size.  But some things are inherently built-in that cannot be coached.  Add that to the things that some folks are easily coachable on -- and you have an elite QB to me.

Just keep going in circles eh? As usual you cherry pick. I bring up the entire Seattle game and the entire Jags game. You bring up the 1 drive vs Seattle and when they played the 4-12 Browns. Clearly there is a disconnect.

Purdy missed the Rams 2 games, and Houston game. Those would have been better measuring stick games.

Well said, and good posts.  It certainly becomes hard to deny, but some people will still try to find a way to lol.  I mean afterall, he only beat the 13-3 seahawks by a few points and didn't fill up the box score!!!
