And a good ![]()
@jdmoney14
No he is not top tier. Beating the teams of Arizona / Carolina / Cleveland / Tennessee / Indianapolis / Chicago Defense proves nothing. All of these teams have issues on the defensive side of the ball.
His first 2 games he was decent against Seattle and he was awful against Jacksonville. Can't blame the turf toe. He wasn't going to play if he didn't feel up to it.
The sample size this year against strong teams isn't there to paint a clear picture.
My point is that he is a good QB, but he's not elite. He's probably top 9-10ish in the league. Mac Jones has also looked good in Shanahan's offense.

I do not think this is the best way to compare QBs. The schedule is what the schedule is.
I am not sure what your definition of 'elite' is. But I think there are 3-4 clear 'elite' QBs, disregarding whether they are this year or not.
But I think Stafford can be argued to be in the 'elite' group.
I think Darnold can be considered a 'good' QB.
Luckily these QBs play in the same division as Purdy and, therefore, have played some of these same teams you mentioned.
Against AZ: Purdy had a 74 QBR, Stafford had 88, Darnold had 80 & 72
Against CAR: Purdy had a 51 QBR, Stafford 26, Darnold had 25
Against TEN: Purdy had a 86 QBR, Stafford 64, Darnold 41
Against IND: Purdy had a 89 QBR, Stafford a 72, Darnold a 40
So, basically against those same teams Purdy is out-performing not just a 'good' QB but an 'elite' QB that is an MVP contender.
Average QBR against those teams: Purdy 75, Stafford 62.5, Darnold 51.6
Against the overall NFL this year Purdy is leading the league in QBR at 77.6, Stafford 71.8, Darnold 58.4
They obviously play each other but otherwise will have faced a lot of the same defenses on their schedules.
So, while he may not be 'elite' yet according to most perceptions and grades; he cannot be that far from them.
He certainly has better advanced metrics than most of the so-called 'good' and 'elite' QBs, and has for quite a while now.
Like I always say, he does some things I do not like. But those things work to the good for him far more than they do not work out.
Styles make fights in boxing.
But schemes make QBs. So far, he has been successful against most schemes he has faced.
So, I am not sure what more folks would want him to do to in order to join the 'elite' class.

See its clowns like this guy that keep moving the goal posts lol. 1st game against Seattle where he was 7 for 7 on the game winning drive beating one of the best defenses in the nfl on the road with kittle on the sideline lol. Against Jacksonville he was 100% hurt and you CAN blame it on the toe. He literally couldn't drive off his foot and all his throws were high due to that. It was painfully obvious he was still hurt. He sat the next 6 weeks due to the injury. He has 8 starts and hes 7-1 with 20 td passes (and 3 rushing) on pace for over 40 on tbe year. He leads the nfl in qbr. If you cant see that hes a very good qb, I don't know what to tell you. Keep moving goalposts bro. Also you act like the Colts defense is so bad, yet the seahawks scored zero tds against them. He scored 5 lol. The bears d also lead the nfl in turnovers forced. Mac Jones NEVER had the offense looking like this lol. You mentioned the Cardinals? Mac put up a whopping 16 points against them and needed a last second eddy pinero fg to beat them. Brock put up 41 and the game was over at halftime. The offense is 50x better with Brock than it was with Mac, and I like Mac and am greatful for how he stepped in

I get what you are saying but you are also cherry picking stats against poor teams.
They both played Seattle and Jacksonville this year.
Purdy has 4 tds with 5 turnovers and a QBR of 70.0
Stafford has 10 tds with 0 turnovers and QBR of 72.13
Ratings are close but Stafford was cleaner with the ball.

And are you trying to say Clevelands defense is bad lol? They are literally the #2 defense on the road and myles Garrett was in his face all day. He played very well under constant pressure in bad weather. Idk wtf you are talking about

You just answered your question above. And how good exactly is that Browns defense? Well on the road they average giving up 28.2 a game. Still strong eh? I'm not saying that they aren't good, but they have played well at home. And they have had several games with inclement weather that has helped their stats.

He literally couldn't plant his foot and drive into his throws against Jacksonville lol. You keep bringing that up though. If he wasn't hurt, why did he miss the next 7 games after that? He was clearly rushed back, but keep using that game to fit your narrative

The browns game was in Cleveland bozo. The same defense that just held the steelers to 6 points in Cleveland

Why are you getting mad? Are you going to be okay? Is this that big of an issue? Are you screaming at your screen?
Like I said, if he was having trouble planting his foot than why did he play and handicap his team? Did the planting cause him to throw the 2 picks and fumble the ball? Are you sure?

Okay lets clear up your confusion.
1. They are the #2 defense on the road - How can you be giving up 28 points a game on the road. And why are you bring up the road if Cleveland was the home team.
2. The browns game was in Cleveland - Yes I am aware and if you didn't black out from anger you would see I wrote the following about their home games. Let me re-paste it.
I'm not saying that they aren't good, but they have played well at home. And they have had several games with inclement weather that has helped their stats.
So lets circle back here. No, I don't consider Purdy elite. And his sample size this year has been large against poor teams and small against good teams. And in those 2 games against good teams he was "meh". I don't hold it against QB's when they play in inclement weather. Weird things happen. But beating up on the other garbage teams means nothing to me. Big deal. So does Tua and Dak. But, You clearly believe Purdy is elite and that is fine. We don't have to agree. That's what is great about the world. We can have different opinions. No need to ruin your monday over it.

Do you watch games or just look at boxscores? It was 100% obvious to anyone that watched that he was rushed back, and shouldn't have played. You think its the 1st time in the history of sports an athlete came back too early? But keep using this game to spin to your narrative, not the 8 game body of work in which he is 7-1 and putting up great #s with his whole team injured around him. Move goalposts when plays well, point to game he can't plant off his foot to push your agenda, got it.

No sir. I just used the teams you used that all three QBs played.
But you can average it out against all of the teams they all three played.
He simply has outperformed them overall -- that is without cherrypicking a game or two that he did not.

No, I don't consider Purdy elite.
That is fine. There are only 2-3 guys that are. But you imply that it is not even a discussion; it very much is.
Again, what and who do you consider to be 'elite'?
In other words, which QBs do you have clearly rated above him?

Personally, if I'm looking at QB's I want to know how they did against contenders. Not the teams with 3 wins. My own personal preference.

Beating the browns on the road with bad weather when myles Garrett in the backfield all game is good, not bad. Beating the seahawks while being perfect on the game winning drive even though he didnt light up the stat sheet is good not bad. Scoring 137 points in 3 against the Colts, bears, titans is good not bad(no matter how poor you say their defenses are). Hanging 41 on the cards(took their footsteps off the gas late) when mac Jones who you compared him to hung 16 is good not bad. Leading the nfl in qbr is good not bad. The Jaguars game he was bad, but again he was CLEARLY injured and rushed back, even a blind man could see that. The Panthers game was bad, but Stafford had the same amount of turnovers against them. Being on pace for over 40 tds if he played a full season is good not bad. Being the best qb in the nfl on 3rd and 4th down is good not bad. All the stats are there, you can also watch him play, and if you aren't bias its pretty obvious. You will refuse to tho and move goalposts, because you have a clear agenda. Either that or you just dont know ball.

Can you break that down. That way I can see exactly what you are looking at?

Ok so him beating the seahawks on the road without kittle being perfect on the game winning drive means what to you? The bears happen to be contenders too, idk if you are aware of that or not.
