your perception of "sharps" and "wise guys" is obsolete. "sharp" money used to be a factor during the reign of kosher boys and that was ages ago as the kosher boys are as old as the sin. 

since - the gambling world has evolved into a global online operation with 24 hours of action any day of the week 365 days a year. the day begins at the south pacific markets and expands into far east and central asia as the hours go by  - crossing the eastern europe, central europe, middle east and north and south african markets and finally reaches the american continent and hawaii/alaska.

if you are able to grasp that geographical concept - you may move on reading. if not - please leave the discussion now because anything else discussed here will look to you weirder than eli manning deciding not to go for a score against the cowboys.

the first bettors of the day as you see them are the sharps. well, they were once. those guys that waited on the books to release the line and right away figuring the ways to take an advantage of the lines vegas "miscalculated". today it is only a myth and if you ask me it has never been a truth. even in kosher boys days as what you call the sharp action taken, or billy walters style of handicapping moving the lines style of pop and drop like warren buffet - those were in reality the wise guys but they didnot drop but popped opposite once the lines produced enough delta between them to meddle the lines.

those are extinct animals today as well as their place were taken by far eastern triads from china and malaysia. those actually get the early markets and pound in organized groups and what you get is a malaysian doctored lines which are joined by the rest like pop and drop style bettors awaiting the comfortable lines to pound the opposite. that practice is more common with the basketball lines as the margins to operate with are wider. 

vegas hates those guys and is always protecting itself from that money if it is identifiable. but those triad guys have runners like billy walters and the kosher boys used to have.

sharps? today you only have people who pretend in front of the mirror with the broom theyr'e jimmy page's just they are not jimmy page's but the guys with the broomstick instead of les paul.
