If Andy Reid could hand pick their opponent tonight for Patrick Mahomes first game back, after tearing ACL and LCL ligaments in his left knee, I am fairly certain that it would not be this Denver team.
Sean Payton and Vance Joseph will deploy a great deal of pressure with their formidable defense to determine what level Mahomes is at in his return. KC also adds Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker to their arsenal in order to strengthen their ground attack... which should allow Mahomes some obvious play action scenarios. But again, as great as Kenneth Walker has been, probably not the ideal defense to face out of the gate, with strong run blitz packages prepared just for this concept.
Denver added some serious threats for Bo Nix through the air with Jaylen Waddle, Courtland Sutton AND watch this kid Pat Bryant...Something finally started to click last year with this offense and I suspect that it will be impressive tonight and this year as the chemistry grows.
This environment in KC will be loud and hyped up tonight for sure, and I do think Mahomes will be good physically...but just not up to the level of his peak "Mahomian" like performance just yet...
Tonight I think this may be an official "changing of the guard" game for the AFC West.
