The NFL owners have approved a 17-game season with one bye beginning in 2021. There will be one less preseason game.

Smart ..Get back some of the money lost last year ...
Cool format all vs other conference...AFC at home this year , NFC ny......
Will a quality #2 QB be more important ?

Great....would have been a shock not to see 17....they should have added another week to 19 and started 1 week earlier though so to give the players 2 byes....as an ex. the CFL plays an 18 game season with 3 byes.
Well as they say that's their problem...16 more games either way so it's all good.

Solid matchups on paper ..
Doubt any team will be laying more than 7
Teams appear to be within 1 tier if not the same ..

DU4L, the matchups are all based on last year's division standings. The AFC hosts all of the extra games this year and NFC will next year. The NFC West at AFC North, #1 vs. #1 etc. Other matchups: NFC East at AFC East, NFC South at AFC South, NFC North at AFC West.
The #1 matchups: WAS @ BUF, SEA @ PIT, NO @ TEN, GB @ KC.

well at least should help reduce some of the confusing tiebreaking scenarios lol and guarantee teams will have a winning record or losing record no more 8-8's
all for it

@DogbiteWilliams
It is unprecedented for a professional sports league to play an odd number of games so this is completely unusual but they should start training camp and preseason a week later since nobody needs 2.5 weeks off before the regular season.

@DoubleUp4Life
With 16 games there is a good chance somebody will be favored by more than 7 unless all these games take place very early in the season. In season surprises and busts will shift lines bigger (or smaller) than expected.

Love the format Brother...
Sets up some massive prime time / key matchups on paper ...
Once covid is cleared I'm guessing these games will be played in other countries and or neutral sites ..

Seem like I'm in the minority but I don't like these changes, it's just more money grabbing by the NFL same as expanding the playoff format.
To me it just dilutes the game. There are 32 teams and 8 divisions. 16 games made perfect sense.
Between this and all the stupid ticky tack flags and reviews I'm not even gonna bother with the NFL any more. Every game the refs just do what they can to try and make it come down to the last drive for ratings. Good for viewers, bad for bettors.

As a huge football fan, I love 17 games, (soon to be 18 in a couple of years.). No need for four pre-season games anymore, three is plenty. And no need to practice in pads too much either, too many injuries. It's a marathon, not a sprint.
The game is evolving to more of a finesse game, instead of a brawl, because of the many lawsuits. I like hard hitting blocks and tackles, but hate chop blocks, clips, and excessive roughing.
Personally, I like what the NFL is doing, the game will get better and more interesting with great match-ups this year. Like Green Bay at Kansas City !
