Perhaps you should provide the forum a thread backing the Hawks total which is also at 40.5. You appear to be aggressively promoting an over there implicitly.

I may do that once the lines are officially out.  You will probably be convinced to wager on the Hawks over if I do.  I use 5 dimes and we have nothing so far.  I just thought that part of your writeup was kind of weak and thought I would point it out.  I also expect the Heat (when healthy) to still be better than the Knicks.

Good luck with your play and on the season.

What was weak? Implying that the Hawks will be distracted with controversy? It's true! They need new owners. That's not a good thing for all involved, despite several key players returning.

I like their front spots with Melo, Calderon, Smith, Shumpert, Hardaway Jr, and one of the best picks in the draft Early.

However, once you get past that there really isn't much.

If Stoudemire can give them decent numbers they should finish between 39 and 43 wins.

Scal, the lines are now out at sportsbook. Unfortunately, the line for the Knicks is 41.5. I need some instruction here. Should I wait for line movement in our favor. It seems like several ppl disagree with you just in this thread. Will the public pound the under here. Thx

Hate to say it man but at over 41.5 it's a bust I don't have anymore expectations for this team then I did last year in no way is this bet a lock but what bet is. So what they got Phil Jackson he is not the coach Derek fisher is, he is a rookie just like Jason Kidd last year ,great point guard ..crappy coach remember the spilt drink trick he got fined for?Knicks lost there only defensive threat. Who they got now Bargnani? This guy is cancer YouTube Bargnani I believe I can fly that about sums up his season last year. I will say they upgraded with Calderon at the pg position he is great fundamental pg with a good 3 point percentage but that's about it. Remember this bet is based on melo staying healthy all 82 games because without him this team is trash . Remember this is only my opinion but we will  see how the Knicks do come end season.

Several key players returning??  The whole team is returning and it's loaded with veterans.

You are basically replacing Lou Will (ACL), Gustavo Ayon (who missed most of the year) and Cartier Martin with Thabo, Kent Bazemore and Adreian Payne.

Add in Horford and this team will be far better than last year.  This should be painfully obvious only 2 weeks in to the season.

The Hawks play a back to back with the Knicks in early November so we will get an early chance to see who is right here.

You seen what Teague did last year in playoffs he gets better and better n with return of horford and millsap is a gym rat . Knicks r still a hot mess until they prove otherwise on other hand atl still managed to give indi a run for there money without one there best players.

Millsap n Horford averaged near 40 and 20 on great efficiency while Horford was playing.  Teague had 10 double digit assist games in 29 games with Horford.  Only had 4 in 57 games without Horford.  Averaged over 8 assists with Horford and under 6 without him.  ATL is going to be a problem in the East if they stay healthy.

To all above, I can just say that 36.5 will be as good as it gets. 38.5 is VERY good and for me, my money will be on over 40.5.

Barring catastrophic injury, the Knicks will most definitely win more games than last year (37 wins).

    VERY poor line imo.

I like over 40 ..  The year before last they got off to a hot start.. Hoops is like that, you can fall into a losing streak or winning real easy..
Hardaway, jr smith, Carmelo should have a solid core by now...

    Poor line I agree...

yo,wassup scalabrine!!!...just thought i'd chime in.i think the line is pretty much bang on,if not a tad high and i will give my reasons why i think so....i preface anything said by giving you utmost credit and respect for having a far deeper, more profound knowledge of your local new york sports teams than i so i bow down from a position of inferiority...but give my perspective regardless.
i simply do not think that the knicks have the outright talent to be trusted to pass .500 with any sort of surety, even in the putrid eastern conference.i reckon everything will have to go absolutely perfect for them to get them over that 41 win mark and the rookie head coach issue is such a big question mark for me,just have to look back a year ago to kidds initiation to put hesitation in the mind around that matter....it can be a real tough transition strait from player to coach and those blurred lines of respect can be a bigger issue than is given credit i feel.
as far as i can see there are 8 teams who i feel will "likely" finish above the knicks-cavaliers,bulls,wizards,raptors,nets,heat,hawks and probably hornets as well...so,given that the last seeded playoff teams in the east more often than not finish below .500 i see it as being a big ask or,at worst,a close run thing for the knicks to make that cut.
a few of their players have already caught the injury bug at various times in their career-stoudemire,shumpert,bargnani,j.r. smith and any injury AT ALL could be disastrous for this squad with how shallow the depth is.i think they need just about 100% perfect health to maximise their potential here with the likes of prigioni, mbenga, acy, outlaw, larkin, jason smith and cole aldrich in reserve should any of their top 7 go down....and it goes without saying they are toast if they lose carmelo for any significant period of time,he has been blessed with his durability and good health thus far in his career, perhaps he is "due"??...but then thats the risk you always take with futures bets.
apparently the "triangle" requires unselfish,hi i.q. players that understand spacial awareness and the need to pass at the right time in the right spots on the floor for it to function at its optimum....since when have these guys on the knicks roster been associated with those concepts??-carmelo,amare and j.r.smith???....anythings possible but i wont hold my breath waiting  for the day this group grasps this offense with great clarity and executes it the way it is intended...frustration will grow rapidly when fisher sees 2 or 3 black holes out on the court instead of 2 formations of equally spaced triangles on either half of a halfcourt set and i see carmelo reverting to type eventually....jab step...jab step....jab step....fade-away.....
but even if they do "get it" and click as a team they still gotta make shots and get stops, obviously thats wat this league boils down to and i cant back this roster to do that and be on the right side of the scoreboard enough times....there doesnt seem to be the air of ambition and aspiration about this franchise at the moment from where im sitting(perhaps you have a different take on it being so much closer to it),and im not sure they truly see themselves as a playoff team, regardless of the standard bluster and hyperbole that comes out of every nba camp, including the knick, prior to season tip-off......they know, like everyone else, that management is really positioning themselves to make a run at the next big free agent grab with salary space being planned to be made available.
that dont mean they wont play hard of course.but doesnt do much to galvanise a side and give them a "mission" mentality, which you would hope they will have when they are often over-matched talent-wise...in the end,im not totally sold on what theyve got here and would project that, all going well, they will fall somewhere between 37 and 39 wins......maybe even less if this team splinters apart at sum stage if fisher cant inspire them and get them all on the same page.

wat you think about the rockets UNDER 48.5????im absolutely loving it at first glance..aside from harden and howard they got a pretty scrub line-up and look like they will take a big step backwards to me,end up around .500 in the wild, wild west...not impressed at all with moves that went down on their part this off-season......and can see suns, grizzlies, pelicans and nuggets definitely improving by a few games each whilst no other western team will take too big a drop either so somethings gotta give...any opinion??

The Knicks got weaker. They won't make the playoffs and will be lucky to win 36 games.

Melos I could debate with you for hours on this given your write-up.

The expectations are quite high for this team: playoffs at a minimum and maybe a first round win.

And 40 wins is under .500.

This team needs to finish over .500 to justify:

    Paying Phil $60 million
    Paying Fish $25 million
    Paying Melo $120 million +

They didn't dole out that money, sign the second biggest FAgent of the offseason and bring in a living legend to have consecutive under .500 seasons.

I can assure you 41 wins will be the absolute lowest bar this team needs to win to justify the changes.

The roster is BETTER. Trust me on that Chandler was a cancer and Felton was more involved with bail money than PG play.

All the money, all the changes, the young players, Melo justifying his contract, JR growing up under Phil (he will or he's out), Hardaway growing, Amare healthier and in a contract year, Bargnani giving you more after an atrocious year, better Pg play, higher expectations, a coach who is a conduit to a man who is the winningest championship coach in history.

Again, barring injury, over 40.5 will be attained! And the other numbers in this thread are a dream!

And the other numbers in this thread are a dream!

okay.....as i say,you are closer to it than i so i cede to you on knowing the pulse of the team and the true aspirations and expectations they will seriously try and meet.
but i remain highly skeptical that they have the horses to meet those goals.having your season goals being contingent on j.r. smith finally getting a clue, bargnani consistently living up to his true potential and amare not walking thru the whole season gimpy again is a terrifying prospect to me.
and ya can pay folks all the money in the universe,a bad buy is a bad buy and money dont guarantee anything obviously.that money is an investment for the future and may pay big dividends going forwards but im not sure right now that it will be justified......jackson no doubt an absolute genius and legend but he is totally unproven in his new role and at sum point will realise he is helpless to influence the results oncourt with the talent he is left with.
dont get me wrong tho,i hope like hell they get there and wish the absolute BEST for your wager...and remain an avid follower and reader of your nba threads going forwards.....i dont mind being 100% wrong on this one if it means you can cash in!!

so,no opinion watsoever on the rockets???even a cupple words on wat you think of the roster they got now??

This team needs to finish over .500 to justify:

    Paying Phil $60 million
    Paying Fish $25 million
    Paying Melo $120 million +

They didn't dole out that money, sign the second biggest FAgent of the offseason and bring in a living legend to have consecutive under .500 seasons.

The under is attractive. I don't know what they are going to do at PG.
They have Beverly starting, Isaiah Canaan and Nick Johnson...!?

How are they going to win over 48.5 with that?

    Beverly always gets injured too.

It's attractive but they very well may overachieve and Ariza will bring much better D than parsons.

Believe me. Bet the over on the Knicks and you will cash. They will definitely be a >.500 team.

Still just way too tough a team to figure out.  They could win 50...they could win 30...NOTHING would surprise me

    @CM

Barring catastrophic injury, I literally would play Russian roulette with 3 Bullets in a 6-shooter if they won 30 or less.

i think thats his point...he feels its so unlikely that he is willing to put a bullet in his head should it occur....which for most folks would be considered an undesirable outcome...it is a way of expressing confidence.

its tough for me to get over the line on this one,im kinda with CMJohnson, they could do anything from flame out to compete in the middle of the eastern playoff pack.....but if i would put trust in anyone on the planet regarding new york teams,it would certainly be scalabrine.his feel for this stuff is spooky/surreal in the time ive been observing....if anyone knows more than the rest of us on matters knicks, its this dude
