Just released on the front page of this site:

    https://www.covers.com/articles/articles.aspx?theArt=388638

    Knicks O/U 40.5

If you want to bet one total in the NBA this year, bet the Knicks OVER 40.5.

Don't wait because it will go up to 40.5, possibly 41 and even 42.

At 40.5, it will GO OVER.

I can easily see the Knicks improving by 7/8 games compared to last year's 37 wins to finish anywhere between 43-45 wins and land an 8/7 spot in the playoffs where the balance of power is so incredibly top heavy it will leave tons of room for the Knicks to take games from the teams that were playoff teams last year and are now clearly worse: Nets/Pacers/Heat/Hawks(and their issues/distractions).

Even at that, I can assure you the Knicks will not get swept by the Cavs or the Bulls so add more wins for those teams.

Afraid of the new coach? Don't be. He's a conduit to one of the greatest ever in Phil Jackson.

Afraid of the Triangle offense being instituted? Yes, they will suffer their bumps and bruises but I promise you they will be better defensively (much better) which will offset the losses due to the new offense.

Afraid of bonehead JR. Don't be. His bullsh** won'[t be tolerated under the Fisher/Jackson coach/de facto coaching model.

Afraid of the roster changes? They kept the ONE guy that mattered and is the pulse of this team in Melo. He can score in truckloads and that is very important when you back a team like the Knicks.

Felton and Chandler leaving? That is addition by subtraction when it comes to these dogs.

This will NOT be a season of failure and last year's 37 wins was among the most miserable in franchise history given the expectations.

The expectation this year is the playoffs and although 40 wins will get you in, you will squeak in on the last days. That will not be the Knicks blueprint this year.

Therefore, the 40 wins will be exceeded and if they are, you win with the over. This is a very poor line. A challenging line would be 43/43.5 but not 40.5. Bad for them. Good for us.

Get it while it's hot because the total will rise.

    The pick:

    KNICKS OVER 40.5 wins

Why should the knicks improving their record this year?
Chandler was one of the pillars of the team with his defense.Do you remember what the team did without him?
The other teams in the east all got better:
Miami and ind are still better than them
Cle,Chicago are by far better than them.
Wiz,nets, hawks are by far younger than them, and better too.
They can only win in a 4 game span with the sub pair teams, like celts and the lottery teams...and personally,i'm not even sure of that.
You re suggesting to bet on the improvement of the only team who had sub par picks, and only got 2 mediocre players(cald and dalembert) from the market and lost their anchor center.
    No thanks

I disagree - Knicks @ 40.5 is too high. My projection is around 35.5.

You are clueless if you think the Hawks will be worse this year.  That team was decimated by injuries last season while having poor depth.  They were also in the first year of a new system with a completely new cast of players.  They get Horford back as well as adding Thabo, Bazemore and Payne in exchange for Lou Will, Cartier Martin and Gustavo Ayon.  They go from being a weak perimeter defending team to a strong one.

The Hawks also had a stretch where they lost 12 of 13 with Horford, Antic, Ayon and Millsap all out at the same time.  They were 1-10 in games that Korver missed and 1-8 in games that Carroll missed.  They now have quality backups for these guys.  They finally got healthy at the end of the season and went on a 10-2 run and 5-1 against playoff teams.  They then gave Indiana all they could handle, in the first round, without Horford on the court.

I forget the exact stat but the Hawks were somewhere around 30-16 last year when they had a starting lineup of Teague.Korver.Carroll.Millsap.Horford or Antic.

Mike Budenholzer will be known as a top 5 coach in this league after this season is over.  The majority of the team spent the entire summer in ATL working together.

The Hawks will be much improved while we will most likely see more of the same from the Knicks.  The Knicks may surpass the 40 win mark, but the Hawks will surpass the 40 win mark with 2 weeks left in the season.

Of course this overlooks the red hot spotlight that will be in them because of the soon to be ex-owners comments and Ferry's parroting. Who knows what else will leak?

Do I think the Hawks will be under 38 wins? No. So for pure wins/losses, yes they will be better now that I think about it after you reminded me about some of their bad stretches last season due to injury.

When they play the Knicks, the hawks will not take 3 of 4 (and 2 of 2 is .500 or 41 wins at a minimum) so for this bet, I don't look at the Hawks as being an issue.

    No thanks

Chandler was one of the primary dogs responsible for last season's debacle and his D regressed mightily since his D Player of the year award.

It is a very GOOD thing he is gone.

Indy is not better than them with Stephenson and George gone and I Wade will sit so you can right down those games as Knicks wins if he sits when they play them.

And bringing up Cleveland and Chicago is not a counter to my OP.

Yes they can win at home against the Cavs as they need time to gel! Even in the road with a boatload of points might be as good a spot.

The only reason I don't make season win totals 5 star plays is because of injuries that can derail anyone's season (and the fact your money is locked up for 7 months.. So it's a 4 star because of that.

This is a team full of veterans with a great coach.  They have came out and backed Ferry in their media day interviews.  You are making an issue out of nothing and it will cost you.

I think the Hawks can go 3-1 or 4-0.  Melo always gives the Hawks major problems, but the Hawks are easily the better team.

Here's a list of the Hawks injuries from last season by the way.

    Horford 59 games

    Antic 7 weeks

    Ayon most of the season

    Jenkins the whole season

Lou Williams was basically rehabbing the whole season.  He was terrible for 80% of the season.

    Korver 11 games

    Carroll 9 games

    Millsap 8 games

Many of these injuries occurred at the same time period as well.

Another difference between the Hawks and the Knicks is the Knicks are completely reliable on one player.  The Knicks are done if Melo goes down to injury.  The Hawks do not have a superstar that they absolutely rely on and can withstand an injury to say Millsap as long as the guys behind stay healthy.  They get in trouble once 3 guys at the same position all go down at the same time.

I would stay far away from a Knicks over futures bet.

I'm not angling to disparage the Hawks. I simply said they have issues other than personnel and I don't see a problem with the Knicks going at least 2-2 against them which is all I care about.

Perhaps you should provide the forum a thread backing the Hawks total which is also at 40.5. You appear to be aggressively promoting an over there implicitly.
