dammit scalabrine,i liked the nets here.....not sure now,may have to lay off......you make good, valid points as always but in a game you yourself admittedly conceded to likely be tight doesnt it make sense to go with the better, more talented team getting points??...your points are all well taken but none of them i believe cant be over-come by the veteran, savvy core of this nets squad.they been here and done it all 10000 times as individuals and obviously wont be phased..momentum is a non-issue as far as i can see as it was done intentionally(however much you wanna debate it) on the nets part so shudnt worry them getting back into stride wen it matters......i dont think theres much doubt that in front of a raucous home crowd toronto will take a lead of sum substance at some point in time....but when the run comes against them from the composed and calm visitors and the game becomes tight again how will the young raptors respond???....multiple clutch guys in pierce, johnson and williams(sumtimes,in his old jazz days at least anyway) wud have me worried in a 1 possession game with 2 minutes left.
and theres no comparison watsoever between this team and the one that wilted like an ice-cream in the sun to a far tougher bulls team in game 7 last year...in terms of personnel it is night and day and to draw a line thru the 2 in terms of this nets team choking and folding is way off base i feel.......maybe this particular team does crack, who knows??but we definitely have no supporting evidence to suggest so as of now.
ive bet every single one of your plays that ive seen posted except one and im kinda torn on this...i acknowledge fully that you are 1000% better at this than i,but my gut says nets plus points or nothing...thinking on it some more, shall decide later on.

regardless,as always, much, much appreciation for you taking the time to share with us buddy......and i am rooting for you hard of course so long as i havent bet yet

On the Raps too, hoping to bang them today and then possibly come back with the Nets for the series at a juicy price bc I expect them to advance in 6 or 7.

Scal, you ARE the man. I dont back your picks or anything, but i always read your writeups and they are really interesting and you have good points, so people can either; back you or let it be, i personally just use them as a great insight read and that may transform into a pick later based on what youve said. But you are one that have really matured which you proved last week with your post about Apache. It appears to me that 5-6 years ago you were the "LOCK" - "THROW YOUR HOUSE" kinda guy, but now youre more down to earth and reasonable with your picks. I like that.

GL scal. Good writeup.. Momentum is highly overated though, a study was done and momentum had very little correlation in terms of winning in playoffs.

I'm on the Nets for the series. But Game 1? Definitely think Raptors. Excellent write up. I, for one, really appreciate the time you put into this. It makes my decision that much stronger. As for the poster that spoke about 3.5, I always ask my local for a line for the favorites. He doesn't know which team I'm playing because I consistently as for the favorites line

Scal I respect you as an NBA capper to the fullest. However I truly believe the nets didn't want those last few games of the season. They match up better with the Raps over the bulls. Kid is smart. Think they give the Raps all they want today.

The Nets can point to their experience as an advantage but that is all in the past, the distant past too. Deron Williams is a threat at point and Lowry will have to avoid foul issues but he can work Williams on the offensive end and expose his weak D. If Lowry outplays Deron, I feel Toronto will win the series.Time to show the NBA that the Raps are not the Raps of 3 or 4 years ago. They are a team in every sense of the word. They are in a perfect position to show the Nets that wanting to play them in the first round was a big mistake.

Good luck Scal, heading to the Raptors game. It's going to be electric at the ACC this afternoon.

        Let's go Raptors!!

I'm from Toronto myself and honestly feel that although the raptors don't have enough regular season wins against top-quality opponents (heat, spurs, clips), they have shown enough resilience to warrant my backing here in their first series. I'll be pounding each game in the series Raps ATS and although its a fools bet will also place $1000 on raps +6600 to win it all. (With the option to cash out when they advance to second round)

Hey listen, almost no one has top quality wins against the Spurs (and some games that turned out to be losses, Pop wasn't even interested in) and to travel to Staples or Miami is a tall order, so I wouldn't worry about it.

The series line? I stayed away but I think many Nets are gonna kick themselves when they could have had an adjusted series line after a loss in game 1 (or else I wouldn't have written this game up).

My only bets thus far are the Clips to win the series at -350 and the Clips to win with a -1.5 games handicap, as well as some series parlays with the Nets. Of course, I can see the Nets losing the first game (and agree with most of your argument) but since I already took them for the series it's hard to bet against them (and, consequently, root for them to lose). I'd be like a schizophrenic, with competing voices in my head. I see the Raptors coming out strong and jumping all over the Nets, but I also see the Nets weathering the storm and hanging around until the end, where the savvy veterans can affect the outcome. I am not a fan of Williams but I think it is a mistake to compare last year's team to this year's. Kidd, PP, and KG have brought a certain attitude (a mix of experience and toughness) that is palpable. So I'm hoping they don't come out flat.

As far as the Clips and dubs go, I think the Clips blow them out in the first game, but that's just my feeling. Right now, I don't trust my intuition, as it has let me down. I would tease it down to 2 (and feel very good about it) but I wouldn't know what to tease it with, as everything else looks uncertain through my timid eyes.

Wow, wow, wow. back the salt truck up and dump in all over the wound with that Jazz pick.

Clips -2 it is and I have games to tease it with.

I will say this BB, nothing is like game 1. It is by far the juiciest game in the series and like every year, you'll see lines you aren't crazy about in Game 2 precisely because the game becomes that much more important to the team that needs to be more motivated to win it.

And I don't think this year's team is like last but remember this. I also watched the Celtics play the Knicks last year and come out flat as well in Game 1. The leading scorer?  Jeff Green. KG was a no show and Pierce had a decent game but overall, the Celtics went down quietly.

How much better to do you think the raptors can get? i want you to be honest with this answer.

How much better do you think the nets can be? AND..... do you think they were putting a max effort into half those games at the end of season. The nets have gears.... the raptors dont..... I'VE WATCHED BOTH TEAMS PLAY. If the nets show up which they will..... Toronto will get abused. I like toronto a lot.... thats why im laying off this game and will bet this game HEAVY come 3rd quarter.

If the Nets are in this game by 3-4 minute mark of the 3rd quarter then toronto is going down. Playoffs and regular season back to back bullshit all that shiit start times at noon that shiit dont matter bro. These are season vets, Hall of famers, international stars, and former starters. This is a walkin the park for the whole nets team where as this is a brand thing for the Raptors Theres no spots here. The spot here is that the NETS CHOSE TO PLAY TORONTO on Purpose.

the spot here is that the Lebron said the nets aren't a real threat for miami. You can't cap a team like the nets at this point. You simply have to wait and see whats up...... they can easily get feckin clobbered tomorrow or they will come in and bang them out just to deflate them..... Waiting this one out..... ps - more than 50% of this team is different.... You think J kidd dont a chip on his shoulder too? Mark Jackson who? This dude been coach for his 5 years on the court..... watch.

You are relying on KG and Pierce to be the same players they were 5-7 years ago?  Joe Johnson?

If Lowery plays like he has all season the Raps win this series.

Don’t tell me the law. Tell me the judge.

            Gene,

All those things I wrote do matter. You cap a game precisely to get the 3-4 minute mark of the third quarter and don't just believe you will get there within reach, or say 'if' (and disagree with getting to 'that point' as well). You have to get there first and that is why you come up with reasons for it.

And did the Nets choose to play Toronto? Ultimately in the last game they decided that they wanted to.

In the words of KGB from Rounders with the way they did it: Baaaad judgement!

And when the camera pans over that arena and you have Deron Williams as your main ball handler, who couldn't even take the energy and motivation of his HOME crowd and turn it into a win against the Bulls last year in Game 1, you will realize who the captain of the ship is. I only care about game 1 not the series.

Deron Williams is your captain. I'd sweat.

And this ship is heading straight iceberg in the shape of the jaws of a Raptor.

PP and KG. They always come to play. But I've watched Deron enough to know he better play at 5th gear or the Nets will look like they did to start the year, that is, the worst team in the league (even beyond the Sixers at that point).

I wasn't awake when you wrote this to answer. I see 3.5's now (and even some 4's) which I'm surprised to see.

No matter, the line has moved against me all year in virtually all my picks.

            Not at all.

The public pounded the Knicks in every one of my picks and I went   8-2 with them this year despite all the line moves (and the move post-bet never came into play no matter how far it swung).

I would work for them if ever offered but unfortunately their most popular issue BY FAR is the swimsuit issue, which requires, cough cough, very little print journalism!
