The Lakers caught lightning in a bottle against the Warriors.  But they also proved to their young selves that they can beat anyone.  Deangelo Russel and Clarkson are a good, talented young backcourt with a question mark in Swaggy P off the bench.  Plus they have a collection of veteran bigs (Bass and Hibber) with borderline emerging youngster Larry Nance and Julias Randle.  In other words, they have enough to beat a mediocre at best Orlando squad on a back to back in which they gave everything agaisnt GSW.   Plus, the lakers lost by two 101-99 earlier at Orlando.  So the Lakers won't be intimidated.  And the Lakers know this is one they can win before the home fans.

Tell me whether you agree or disagree.  D'love to hear thoughts.  These are the dog meat games that are cappable.

Agree mostly, but I'm worried that the LAL go right back into tank mode.

Tough to place any money on the bottom 3 teams.

Unfortuneately your point is well taken!  I'm hoping they show up like they did recently at home against the Brooklyn Nets.  The magic do NOT have superior talent than the Lakers as opposed to most of the other teams.  They're young too.

Letdown spot for LA. Magic are playing well. Payton and Oladipo will take care of Russel and Clarkson. I think Orlando take this one.

Couldn't disagree more. Not with the conclusion but with the writeup. Actually it was nice to see you post, I always like to read your thoughts in others threads, I think you have great understanding.

That is why I am surprised here...

It is very easy to make a team look fantastic and the other the opposite. If I didn't watch NBA at all, I would think the Lakers are contenders according to your writeup.

To remind you, that roster lost so many games at home and holds the 2nd worst record in the league.

Against GSW it was a game they came out to win, but in this one I'm not sure. Kobe giving autographs and seems like everyone there wants to lose. They want to win the race they're having with PHO and PHI.

Now to your analysis regarding the players themselves.
Hibbert??? The gut is a total doosh, has zero basketball, and since that incredible defensive series against the Heat 3-4 years ago, he just became the 2nd biggest joke in the league (first place is well preserved to the human machine GOAT Kendrick Perkins).

Bass? come on. mediocre to say the least.
Yeah. they got some talent here and there, but bottom line the LAkers are TERRIBLE! They can defend and their shooting is poor. And again, I don't how much effort they'll put out there tonight.

Magic, on the other hand, is a great team IMO that has proven its abilities ATS-wise. They have terrific players, that are way better than LA's. Victor + Evan + Elfrid + Vucevic (I know he's out) + Gordon + another nice players... And they're fighting for the playoffs.

I would take Orlando's hard working fellas over the divas from LA any day.

NOW, I absolutely do NOT say that the right pick is ORL-3. But, I think you analysis is wrong and Im saying it with a nice approach so I'm sorry if I sound aggressive.

To the game itself... I would lean Orlando beacuse all the reasons I mentioned:
    1. Better team.
    2. running for playoffs against tanking.
    3. LA way too satisifed after their huge victory, and I would (cautiously) suggest that they partied themselves to death. That's not a factor in taking them, but it adds.
    4. Teams that lose to GSW (yeah, except those 6 that won this season) play better the next day and win. That was a nice trend that I saw during the season, but must admit that didn't check to the bones.

So, why is the line this low? That is what I was devating with myself. Hard to figure this one out.

All in good spirit bro, keep on writing here. GL

I wouldn't put money on the Lakers for your reason of Orland being 'mediocre at best'. The Magic are easily the best "young" team in the league (other than Portland), and can beat anyone on any given night. They've played very well against the Warriors in 5/8 quarters this year. The Magic are a very solid, young squad. I don't think you've watched enough of them this year. They've competed in virtually every single game this year.

With that said I do think the Lakers are capable of pulling one out tonight for your reason that they played their asses off last night against the champs. I guess we will see if the conspiracy theorists are right when the Warriors got smoked by the Lakers on Sunday... Lakers still have 13 wins, got smoked by 29 against ATL on Friday and haven't won back-to-back games all year.

Tough call to make for still a bad team, but good luck!!

After the way the magic finished strong against Golden State, makes me 2nd guess my lean. I do think Lakers will probably cover this game at least.

GL
NO OFFENSE TAKEN WHATSOVER.  Your analysis is the type I cherish when reading threads.  Your take is rock solid in its perspective.  In fact, do bet the lakers is similar to betting against san antonio or golden state at full stregnth.  In fact, when it comes down to it, I just think this is a winnable game for the lakers.  However, will I be surprised if Orlando wins by ten? absolutely not.

The only point I differ with you is I like the journeymen Brandon Bass.  He's not great, but he's in that Carl Landry mode.  He can hit a shot and he can rebound.  He's at the end of his career.  But if you don't show up he can make you pay.  Hibbert is the worst excuse for a professional basketball player since Andrew Bynum.  And at least Bynum won a ring.

Seriously, thanks for you comments.  Made my day in a good way.

Took the words out of my mouth

Lakers showed they can compete when they played against GSW.. It just doesn't make sense for them to win. They have a first round protected (have to get top 3) pick, or else their draft pick goes to phoenix.

If you're goin to be on the Lakers, at least take the points and hope orlando comes up with another 2 pt victory.

With all that said, I hope lakers win tonight

Of course I had the lakers in every conceivable fashion.  I watched the game closely.  I learned the Clarkson and Russel are averaging 18 ppg since the all-star break.  Stephon Curry says Russel is going to be a great 3 point shooter.  I could see that.  Brandon Bass was FANTASTIC in his journeyman roll off the bench.  Larry Nance is a very good on the ball 4 defender.  Clarkson, Russell and Randal dropped 24, 27 and 23 respectively.  They all showed their tremendous potential.  The Brazalian magician Huertas had 5 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds off the bench.  Metta World Peace put in 15 minutes.  Byron Scott WANTED this one.

Also, the magic are five games out of the eighth seed; which means they are NOT REALLY chasing a playoff spot.  Plus Skiles is trying to crush Elfred Peyton's confidence.  Sorta sad.

I thought the Lakers would win.  I was surprised they won so convincingly.   Very fun thread.  Great investigating the game with you guys.  The more we bring to the table, the more we know.
