Why is he playing much less able to put up huge numbers? Why is Dallas not just resting him?

Rest him for what?  He isn't showing that he's dealing with any sort of potential injuries.

Their season is cooked.

They want to keep giving him minutes to let him develop, and the NBA wants him in there so they can keep fluffing his stats and records as the youngest NBA player.

Every single NBA bench player or rookie is doing the same - garbage time?  They don't care, no defense, everyone just puts up easy layups and jacks up 3s hoping to show off in what turns into an exhibition game. 30-40-50+ point games is the norm now with the lack of defense and the rules changes.  Who even gives a shit or bats an eye anymore when you hear about a 40pt game?

Not saying youre wrong but teams are not typically in playing key players in exhibition games
