A performance for the ages in which he shot below 50%, shot a pitiful 30% from beyond the arc while hoisting WAY too many of those, and blatantly stat-chased against a pathetic opponent until he surpassed Kobe’s 81-point effort from twenty years ago.

In the end it was more an embarrassment for the league, for the Miami Heat, and for Adebayo himself than it was a performance for the ages.

43 FT attempts.  He got as many FT attempts by himself as both teams in a lot of games - even ones where the refs are calling a lot of ticky tacky stuff.

Refs helped give him that last bit of boost down the stretch too.

It's like the NBA and refs do it on purpose to keep creating new random records that'll get people talking.

He’s in the zone last night.  Hard to imagine a player ringing down 83 pts these days.

The man had 31 points in the first quarter. Yes, it was a crappy team, but 31! This wasn't at the end of the game getting calls or padding stats. No matter what anyone thinks he will be in the history books forever.

Mr. Bator, in your opinion are games like Wilt 100 and Kobe 81 also an embarrassment to the league?

Only three players in NBA history have ever scored 80+ points in a game. That alone tells you how unbelievably rare it is. Scoring even two points in an NBA game is difficult these are the best basketball players in the world. Try getting open, creating space, and finishing against elite defenders. It’s not easy at all.

So putting up 81, 83 or 100 points in a single game is beyond remarkable, regardless of the opponent. I don’t care if it’s college or professional basketball, doing that at the highest level of the sport is incredible.

With that said, I’m curious about your opinion... Which performance do you think is more impressive...Wilt 100, Kobe 81, or Bam 83? I would encourage looking at the rosters, the level of competition, the size and athleticism of the players, and even watching the game footage.

You’ve been in this forum a long time, just like me, so we may end up agreeing to disagree. But it should still be a great basketball discussion. Take care!!!

Not only this but the Heat players were intentionally fouling in the last 2 minutes or so to save time for Bam to beat Kobe's 81 pts.

Fake 83 pts for sure.

He did play great for good part of the game but his 83 pts came from stat padding and was not done legitimately. 

So much for the so called professionalism of today's players.

Larry Bird once had a chance for a rare quadruple double needing only 1 more and took himself out of the game. When ask about it after the game he said I did enough, we won, I don't need 1 more of anything.

That is why these past players were the greatest they did not acheive greatness with BS. True professionals who were actually great at their craft , not manufactured greatness like we see in today's game.

When Kobe scored 81 not one other Laker took a shot in the last seven minutes of the game. I don’t understand the 81 love for Kobe but not 83 for Bam.

 Because they didn’t intentionally foul him or his teammates intentionally miss ft to give more chance for bam to score , that the whole difference , have u see ur team intentionally miss ft with more than a min to go and up 20+ points , that what people dislike about , 

I'm sorry if you say heat players were helping padding stats umm that Kobe game he literally let nobody shoot the ball and called for it every offensive possession. He was chucking up everything. Can't trash on Bam when Kobe did the same thing. Not for nothing Kobe led the league in scoring followed by iverson and lebum. This season bam is ranked like 40 something PPG 

Say whatever you want to say but to discount BAM effort 83 pts is somewhat of a hater mentality.  

Big difference in the 2.

Kobe's Lakers were trailing in the game, Bam's heat were way ahead.

Kobe was shooting lights out while Bam was shooting like 27% after the 1st quarter. (10 of 37)

Trailing with a red hot shooter in Kobe, why would you not keep feeding him if your goal was to win the game.

When you are up over 20 points and passing to a poor shooting player is not a good strategy, it is stat padding.

5 times Kobe had 50 points going into the 4th quarter but only once did he play in that 4th quarter.

That was the game he scored 81 points because his team trailed in the game. 

He played in the proper context to accumulate those points. And he sat out 4 games he was not needed.

Embed once had 70 points halfway through the 4th and came out , did not play again because he was not needed at that point.

Again he played in the proper context.

There were a number of players Harden being one who had 60 points going into the 4th quarter but did not play at all in the 4th quarter because he was not needed.

How many of these players could have beaten 83 points if they wanted to do it ?

It is not meaningful if done in the wrong context.

Being done in the right context makes it incredible.

Being done like Bam did it makes it disrespectful to past players  and a laughing stock for the league.

oh, I can tell you exactly why one player got love and the other didn’t.

But this thread is about Bam.  For all the complainers, if anyone could do it, it would have been done multiple times already.

And this is why Adebayo’s 83 is more impressive than Chamberlain’s and Bryant’s. He quadrupled his PPG.

 The Lakers won by 18 points. Kobe scored 28 points in the 4th quarter. You are trying to tell me they needed Kobe to shoot to win? Nobody else took a shot in the last 7 minutes of the game for the Lakers. Not buying it buddy.
