    Game: Wizards @ Sixers
    Time: Wednesday 7:05 EST 1/5/10
Line: None posted as of this writing

Back in 1993, Midway released what is arguably the best one-on-one fighting game of all-time: Mortal Kombat II.

What made this game distinct from any previous game in the fighting genre was the fact you could add embarrassment to a defeated opponent through what was called a "Fatality". Specifically, you finished him/her, that is, killed him/her in a humiliating manner.

The Fatalities were both comical and brilliant and elicited laughter through any crowd gathered by the game, leaving the defeated opponent to sulk towards the back of the line at an attempt to compete once again.

    My favorites?

Men, in particular, live vicariously through video games to release aggression. Historically, we are warmongers and have found even the subtlest, most insignificant reason to engage in combat.

Well, what happened to the Sixers in the two previous match-ups with the Wizards is basketball's equivalent to that dejected, defeated Mortal Kombat player who moped to the back of the line only to wait another 1/2 hour to get a shot at redeeming himself.

This game coming up for the Sixers against the Wizards is War....

I truly believe they had it circled on their calendars since the last debacle occurred on 11/24/10. It is not another regular season game.

I was fortunate enough to have had a room at an Atlantic City casino that night and was able to watch everything unfold...prompting this very thread...

I was watching that game and was tempted to go to the poker tables, but something felt amiss...something made me feel like that game would not play out in your usual free-throw shooting contest in the final minute. So I stayed. And I watched the following:

The Sixers lead for every minute after the 5:35 mark of the first quarter with a workmanlike performance.

Everything was going smoothly and the game got out of hand when they took a 15 point lead, 90-75 with 8:59 left to play in the 4th quarter.

Only the Sixers could find a way to lose this game. They were playing too well up till that point. Only they could offer the Wizards something that could motivate them, as Washington had clearly thrown in the towel.

And motivate them they did. With  3:30 left to play and an 11pt lead, Elton Brand committed a flagrant 2 on JaVale McGee which when all was said and done, turned that 11pt lead into a 6 pt lead and got Elton Brand ejected.

From there the Sixers regrouped and had a 5 pt lead with 28 seconds left to play...

FT's FT's FT's and then Evan Turner had a chance to ice the game up 106-103 with 7 seconds...

    He misses both...

    And what happens?

John Wall gets FOULED ON A HALF-COURT HEAVE and nails ALL THREE FREE THROWS. A cardinal sin in even a JV game and probably had Doug Collins barfing over the back of the scorers table.

Obviously, given their frame of mind at that point the Sixers blew it in OT and lost 114-116.

    It's all right here: Link

So this is just a revenge game off a brutal loss right?

    Wrong.

The Sixers lost in a very similar fashion to the Wiz on 11/2/10 when Cartier Martin (yes, CARTIER MARTIN  vid attached) nailed an off-balance three to tie the game at the same score that sent the last game into OT 106-106 with .4 seconds left. The Sixers again blew it in OT and lost by one.

Two VERY debilitating losses Doug Collins will be sure to use as bulletin board material for this game on the 5th.

    The difference for this game?

    It's at the Sixers.

It is also the first home game after an unmerciful stretch of EIGHT ROAD games (@ORL, @ Chicago, @ Boston, @Denver, @ Golden State, @ Suns, @ Lakers) where they have a chance to go a laudable 4-4 if they beat the Hornets tonight.

The Sixers couldn't properly defend a three-pointer in both games with  3 seconds to play and lost both. They won't be defending 3-pters here. They will look to blow the doors off the Wiz who they gift-wrapped two games to.

The line issue? It was 3 for the first game (they covered) and 2.5 for the second game (they also covered). So ironically, you profited nicely if you had the Sixers the previous two games...even with an OT that could have screwed you.

This line is going to swing 7 to 7.5 pts and maybe even 8 pts. given the double revenge angle and the fact the Wiz (3-16 in their last 18 after the Sixers win) have been falling apart. I expect it to be about 6 pts./6.5 pts if the bookies are smart and take the way the losses occurred against the Wiz the previous two games into account.

Even at 6.5 (and that's being as liberal as possible), I'll take the Sixers expecting a convincing double-digit win in a statement game.

If it's less, I'm loading up even more.

It's time for the Sixers to pick their head up, step up to the controls at that video game and kick the barstool leg out from under the their MK2 nemesis.

They will do what was done to them the past two games...

The Sixers will RIP THEIR FUCKING HEART OUT in the most brutal of all Fatalities....

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owZPspxJ4jw&feature=related

    THE PICK:

    SIXERS (any line <=6.5) OVERWIZARDS

    THE PICK:

    SIXERS (any line <=6.5) OVERWIZARDS

You're obviously not a Sixers fan...great call and write up. With you on this one.  Jrue has been playing awesome lately.  Not playing as nice as the Cardinal though...good LUCK

Great Writeup. Scal it was 11/23 Tuesday correction on the date.

Remember that game too I had a huge swing b/c of that game. I had a single bet on Philly ML +110 and a 4 team Parlay with Philadelphia ML +110 instead of the +2.5. I will be rooting for you and the Sixers.

Was on the 6ers both games, but as a fan it was very hard to watch.  2 of the worst losses I've ever seen (and being a 6ers fan, I've seen hundreds of losses).

Already planned on hammering them before reading this thread, this makes me more comfortable!!!

76ers 10-0 ATS after scoring less than 90 points.
    Final tonight 84-77.

I'm thinking they will be 7-8 point favs

Nice write-up Scal.  I would never put money on any team from Philly, especially the Sixers, but just because I enjoyed your post so much I am breaking my rule and will take the Sixers.

I dunno man the Wizards have the height and the speed to trouble any side let alone the 76ers but should be a pretty close game
