Christine (1983) one of my all time favorite psycho-horror movies ever staring the red-and-white 1958 Plymouth Fury nicknamed "Christine" and some other human actors. Director John Carpenter just brilliant with his use of 1950's rock & roll songs for "leitmotifs" of Christine's moods and "acting out". the movie has pretty much achieved "cult" status and "Christine" has become the nickname for any vehicle or machine that acts weird. plays on Encore again Tuesday May 5th @ 11:35 am & 2:35pm. rate it    of four

Alex Cross (2012) crime-action-thriller with Tyler Perry as police detective-psychologist Cross, along with his partner Tommy Kane, played by Ed Burns, chasing a psycho killer Picasso played by Matthew Fox. excellent suspense and action and I found it entertaining. Fox as Picasso one of the better "psycho villains" I have seen recently as he is a truly evil baztard. has an interesting plot twist at the end. Rotten Tomatoes threw rocks with a "rotten" score of 12% which just goes to show you can NOT always go by their scores. hopefully will play again on Showtime-Showcase again soon. I rate it   of four

NOT just a car. Piedmont Airlines old 727-200 aircraft # 640 which was an old former Northeast Airlines original Boeing 1st run of the 200 model was known as "Christine' because every damn trip she had SOME mechanical failure

from April 29th: Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) premiers on EPIX channels this Friday May 1st. been looking forward to seeing this as I usually enjoy "Star Wars" style scifi-action. any opinions would be welcome. Rotten Tomatoes reported a 91% "fresh" rating BUT I disagree with their reviews quite often

BIG disappointment for me. decent action and CGI BUT pretty weak, mindless fantasy plot and NO real compelling characters although the "Groot" is somewhat interesting. villains are all pretty lame too. sat thru it waiting for SOME plot twist or interesting character to show up and NO-thing. guess I should NOT have been surprised with it being based on Marvel Comics characters. HOW Rotten Tomatoes come up with 91% "fresh" is beyond me. I think it pure and thank god I did NOT waste a PPV on this tripe couple months ago. definitely NOT a "Star Wars" or anything close to it

forgot to mention the LAME 1980's pop music sound track for yet ANOTHER reason for not liking Guardians of the Galaxy

Hercules (2014) LOTS of action and excellent battle scenes in this slightly different telling of the legend. has an excellent "plot twist half way thru. stars Dwayne Johnson in the title roll and I thought it was a part made for him. also has John Hurt as the double crossing Cotys King of Thrace and Joseph Fiennes as the cowardly murderer of Hercules family King Eurystheus. the CGI was outstanding and I enjoyed the movie esp because it is "fast moving" @ only 98 minutes. almost NO 'filler" in this one. plays again on EPIX channels almost daily Tuesday May 5th thru Sunday May 10th. I rate it    for action-adventure fans

Seven Samurai (1954) the Akira Kurosawa classic was on Turner Classic Movies last night and I just can NOT pass it up when it's on. the story of a village of farmers that hire seven ronin (masterless samurai) to combat bandits who will return after the harvest to steal their crops is a true  "tour de force". the statement "It has remained highly influential, often seen as one of the most "remade, reworked, referenced" films in cinema" is absolutely correct. most famous American remake is the western The Magnificent Seven (1960). film students STILL study Kurosawa's directing and camara work. GREAT movie that should be seen at least once by every serious action movie fan. obviously I rate it     of four

Sands of Oblivion (2007) made for Sci-Fi Channel original "unearthing an ancient Egyptian curse" turned out to be MUCH better than I expected. the "hook" is that the dig is in the Californian desert film set for legendary epic films director Cecil B. DeMille's first "The Ten Commandments" in 1923. turns out DeMille brought back artifacts fro Egypt for movie props and one is the cursed spirit of an Egyptian avenging god. the "flash backs" to when Demille was filming an interesting "twist". had some pretty good suspense and action esp at the end. worth a watch for "Mummy's Curse" type movie horror fans. plays again on Encore-Suspense Thursday May 7th @ 1:10am pacific time. rate it   of four

Absolute must see 2 hour doc you must see gentlemen.

Thought I had seen all V docs twice until this one came along..

 Into the Blue (2005)..........flick about diving for treasure vs. bad guys, with Paul Walker, Scott Caan, J Brolin,............not bad......enough twists to make it interesting.......decent acting......../4

Red Dawn (1984) the "cold war" classic about high school kids resisting a Soviet invasion with their Cuban allies of their home in Colorado. early work by Patrick Swayze, Lea Thompson and Charlie Sheen with Powers Boothe, Ben Johnson, Harry Dean Stanton and Frank McRae in supporting rolls. well acted "patriotic" action movie that has somewhat achieved "cult" status. one of Swayze's first major movie rolls that made him a star. plays again on HD Net Movie channel again Thursday May 14th @ 5:00pm & 8:45pm pacific time. rate it    of four

Red Dawn (2012) remake of the 1984 classic this time with North Koreans backed by an ultranationalist Russia government. has Chris "Thor" Hemsworth in the Patrick Swayze roll of older brother Jed Eckert leader of The Wolverines . has pretty good action BUT just doesn't have the plot "zip" of the original .  I did find it entertaining and worth watching once just for comparison. earned a Razzie Award nomination for "Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off or Sequel". I found entertaining. plays again on EPIX2 Tuesday May 12th @ 10:50am & 5:00pm and Wednesday May 13th @ 12:10am. rate it   of four

You'll be impressed with this Vietnam program Rink, it's very moving. Plan to not be interrupted for 2 hours.

Furious 7 and it was okay

City Of God - Great movie loosely based on real events. It depicts the growth of organized crime in the Cidade de Deus suburb of Rio de Janeiro, between the end of the 1960s and the beginning of the 1980s, with the closure of the film depicting the war between the drug dealer Li'l Zé and vigilante-turned-criminal Knockout Ned. I HIGHLY recommend this movie

Se7en - The newly transferred David Mills (Pitt) and the soon-to-retire William Somerset (Freeman) are homicide detectives who become deeply involved in the case of a sadistic serial killer whose meticulously planned murders correspond to the seven deadly sins: gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, pride, lust, and envy.

Fallen- Homicide detective John Hobbes witnesses the execution of serial killer Edgar Reese. Soon after the execution the killings start again, and they are very similar to Reese's style. Very gripping movie will have you on edge of your seat. I REALLY like this movie and HIGHLY recommend this one and even better it has denzel in it.

Oh YES. City Of God excellent based on true events crime drama and BOTH Se7en and Fallen outstanding "psycho thrillers". the cinematography and lighting in Se7en had a real "Blade Runner" feel to it

Saw Avengers age of Ultron in the movies 3-D.  Introduced new characters and I hope they break this cast up because it's enough now.  It's a kids movie.  Nothing a grown up will like much.  I can't recommend it.

Dreamcatcher (2003) very good "invasion of parasitic aliens" sci-fi horror from the Stephen King novel with an interesting group of life long friends that have developed telepathic abilities trying to stop their plan to take over earth. the aliens are very sneaky "shape shifters" who's basic form is that of an eel with razor teeth that can invade the human body and can also morph into the appearance of the big head, big eyed "Greys" to fool people into thinking they are friendly. now I know where they got the design for the "oil worms" in the 2012 sci-fi movie Prometheus

stars Damian Lewis, Jason Lee, Tim Olyphant and Thomas Jane as the four friends Jonesy, Beaver, Pete and Henry who befriend a retarded boy Duddits played by Donnie Wahlberg who is not as dumb as he seems. also has Morgan Freeman and Tom Sizemore as two military types trying to hunt and destroy the aliens. pretty fast paced movie with some excellent "startle" scenes, good "plot twists" and rather surprising ending. plays again on "Action Max" Sunday May 10th @ 5:30am and on Cinemax East next Saturday May 16th @ 10:10pm and Cinemax West Sunday may 17th @ 1:40am. Let It Ride (1989) one of the BEST sports comedies EVER staring Richard Dreyfuss, David Johansen, Teri Garr and Jennifer Tilly with Allen Garfield, Robbie Coltrane and Michelle Phillips. Richard Dimitri is hilarious in the minor part of "Tony Cheeseburger". pretty much non-stop laughs. it is a "must see" at least once esp for horse racing fans. plays again on Starz channel Monday May 11th @ 5:00pm and Friday May 15th @ 10:30am. as one of my all time favorite comedies I rate it     of four

Company of Heroes (2013) very fast paced WWII action movie with Tom Sizemore, Vinnie Jones, Jurgen Prochnow, Neal McDonough  and Chad Michael Collins. LOTS of fights and battles with oodles of ordnance and "stuff that goes boom". think anyone who enjoys war-action movies will like this one even IF the plot is a bit far fetched. runs just a short 100 minutes and the action is pretty much non-stop. plays on Sony movie channel again Monday May 18th @7:00pm & 10:45pm. I rate it of four

saw it a while back and agree was pretty fast paced with some excellent action. worth a look IF you are into Invasion of the Body Snatchers style horror movies

Belle (2013) British fictional drama based on true life people and events set in late 18th century England when the English still were engaged in the slave trade. the basic plot is the life of Dido Elizabeth Belle the illegitimate mixed-race daughter of British Royal Navy officer Captain Sir John Lindsay, who was the nephew of William Murray, 1st Earl of Mansfield, the Lord Chief Justice of England, and West Indian slave woman Maria Belle. Dido was raised a lady by the Murray's although she is subject to all kinds of prejudice even from her own family. the sub-plot is about how Dido helps a young abolitionist lawyer John Davinier gather information on the notorious Zong massacre where slavers jettisoned their cargo of slaves with the excuse they were running out of water and tried to claim insurance. Lord Chief Justice Murray's ruling against the slavers was a major step in making the West Indies slave trade unprofitable

IF you liked movies like Jefferson in Paris (1995) and  Amistad (1997) you should enjoy this one. I found it entertaining with an interesting plot, excellent acting and a nice break from my usual "slam-bang" action fare. plays again on HBO-Signature Friday May 15th @ 12:45pm. HBO-Z Monday May 18th @ 2:00am, HBO-East @ 4:15pm and HBO-West @ 7:15pm. rate it   of four

Heavy Metal (1981) animated sci-fi fantasy with plenty of sex, nudity and violence all set to "metal rock" music. just the perfect film for the normal Covers degenerate. music from Blue Oyster Cult, Cheap Trick, Don Felder, Sammy Hagar and Black Sabbath. 90 minute of mindless fun for metal rock fans. has become somewhat of a "cult classic". plays again on Sony Movie Channel again Sunday may17th @ 2:00am and Wednesday May 20th @ 11:25am pacific time. rate it     of four

Sushi Girl (2012) OK crime-revenge movie about a jewel robbery gone bad has pretty good action in spots and an interesting "plot twist" at the end. mostly little known actors except for an older Mark "Luke Skywalker" Hamill as "Crow". a nude Cortney Palm as "Sushi Girl" NOT bad to look at. worth watching IF you like the genre BUT looks like Director Kern Saxton tried to make a Quentin Tarantino movie and came up a bit short. plays again on The Movie Channel-East (HD) again Friday May 22nd @ 1:00am pacific time. I rate it   of four

Wow LRR going back to watch Heavy Metal.  Amazing that movie is all the way back to 1981.  3.5 dog bones for me.
