The Brave One (2007) Jodie Foster, Terrance Howard

Jodie Foster's boyfriend gets brutally murdered and Foster goes on a revenge rampage.  Terrance Howard plays the detective.

I would give it 2 dogbones.  Not great, not terrible.

Had to take off from work a lot this month because I can't carry over my leave.Watched a bunch of movies.

To start with I saw two very different sports movies.  One was "Slapshot"  with Newman.  It's silly and funny.  Worth it to see Newman in that leather leisure suit ( orange?) he wore. I thought it was great the first time around because it is funny.  I had season tickets to the Dallas minor league hockey team for years.  My best friends and I were a lot like the guys in the movie. Yes, we dressed that way. Good times!

The other movie was "The Set-Up"  circa 1951  with Robt. Ryan. Serious film noir .  Hard scrabble people trying to make a living by fighting. The scenes in the fighters room ring true and the scenes of the spectators are fantastic. Great boxing movie.  Ryan was a drill Sgt. and boxer in the Marines in  W W II.  Very good movie but only for the ones who like serious 1950 film noir.  Robt. Ryan always a fun watch for me.     GL,   Doc

Rat,  Finally watched "Atlas" .  Wow,  great for me.  Didn't check out Wiki or IMDB until I watched it which I think was a good choice.  I was fooled watching it because of the great make-up and editing and it was fun to see how I didn't recognize  actors in different roles. Fun movie for me. I was warned to pay attention so I did.  It was okay with the back and forth.  If I had just walked into this with no warning it would have seemed a mess.    GL,   Doc

I watched "Amour" the other night. It was double nominated for Oscars last year for best picture and best actress.   Hmmm,  I sat thru this French sub-titled movie.  I was okay with it but very tedious. Not recommending it .

I actually thought this was Jodie Foster's third best movie after The Accused (1988) and The Silence of the Lambs (1991). thought they might make a sequel like with the Charles Bronson Death Wish movies.

started watching the Breaking Bad series again. Loved the first season but got bogged down in the second season around episode 7, does it get better again or stop watching it?

We're the Millers was funny..... Jason Sudeikis was funny (I find that he can be annoying in some roles), Jen Aniston was good and hot, Emma Roberts is gorgeous and the kid that played the son was goofy funny.

Captain Phillips with Tom Hanks was very good.  Great acting by everyone involved.  Even the Somali Pirates were excellent, very well done.

Out of the Furnace (2013) Christian Bale, Woody Harrelson.

This is one of those movies where it is really good in parts and it is really bad in parts.  I think the people who made this movie should have went back and watched it a few times they could have made some adjustments and made it a whole lot better.

I guess I will give it two dogbones mainly for the actors.

watched Hannibal Rising (2007) which is the fifth installment of the Hannibal Lecter film series. and  prequel to the previous three films: Red Dragon, The Silence of the Lambs, and Hannibal.most critics didn't like it but I thought French actor Gaspard Ulliewss was excellent as the young Lecter and it had enough "blood & guts  and suspense to be worth while

...And Justice For All is a (1979) excellent Al Pacino courtroom drama famous for it's  You're out of order! You're out of order! The whole trial is out of order! They're out of order!" scene. great followup movie for Pacino after Dog Day Afternoon (1975). it's on Sony Movie channel again Monday Dec  23rd @ 1:34pm and Sunday Dec 29th @ 3: 00 pm pacific time

Up until 'The Fighter' I thought Bale was an American until I saw an interview and wondered why the hell he was doing a British accent.

For years I thought the Dr. House guy was an American too.

    The more you know...

The Family (2013) watched on Dish PPV. French action crime comedy film with Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer and Tommy Lee Jones. trailer looked really funny and I was looking forward to viewing BUT turned out to be pretty much a "bust" and can't recommend paying to see it or ordering on Netflix. BIG disappointment

Gotta agree with you LeRink on The Family.  Thought it would be good and a huge Pfeiffer fan because I think she's still really beautiful but what a bad accent.

I stopped watching after an hour it was so bad.  Let's be honest it's time for DeNiro to hang it up, this guy is so past his prime it's ridiculous.  Unless there's a role for a senior citizen he shouldn't be in a film.  I can't remember the last time he was in a good movie.

Mikael the Butler looks so boring.  Got good reviews but will have to take a pass.

Finally saw Lincoln.  Great acting, can't do a better job as Lincoln and liked the stories he would tell.  Enjoyed it, it's not for everyone. Kind of slow but like slow if done well.

I saw Last Stand with Schwarzenegger another film I couldn't finish. Could never act now trying to act later in life because he's too old for action films just isn't working.  What a dumb film.  Don't watch this shiit show.

Surprised that Mudd was very good.  There was a time I thought McConaughey was the worst actor in Hollywood and while he'll never win best actor his movies are somewhat watchable lately.

And Crash, stick with Breaking Bad..It will pick up, and season three is the best season as far as I'm concerned..It has it's filler episodes like any series, but definitely worth watching the whole way through..

I do think McConaughey has had some good movies. was excellent in Amistad and The Lincoln Lawyer.

Anchorman 2.  Very disappointing.  Anchorman is one of my favorite comedies ever.  2 just tried way too hard to get in the jokes.  You'll laugh at parts throughout, but overall fell flat.  Can't and never should have tried to follow up the original.

watched Mud (2012) and thought it was kind of a "drag". found myself "paging thru" about a third of it. the two kid actors Tye Sheridan as Ellis and Jacob Lofland as Neckbone were decent but ex for the ending the movie is kind of "arty-smarty" slow

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013) relatively short at 90 minutes it'd pretty much nonstop action with excellent CGI. NOT a big Jeremy Renner (Hansel) fan but the women in the movie are all VERY tasty with Gemma Arterton as Gretel, Famke Janssen as the evil witch Muriel and esp Finnish actress Pihla Viitala as the good witch Mina. plays on EPIX channels about every day all next week. worth watching IF you are into the "fantasy action adventure" genre
