just watched The Victors (1963) last night On the Sony Movie Channel. REALLY well acted "The Futility of War" WWII themed movie with an all star cast from back then of Eli Wallach, Vincent Edwards, George Hamilton and George Peppard with early work by Jim Mitchum (son of Robert) and Peter Fonda. has some of the top European "sex pots" of the day in the cast like Elke Sommer, Senta Berger, Romy Schneider, Rosanna Schiaffino, Jeanne Moreau and Melina Mercouri. the Sony showing contains some scenes like "k00n hunting" that are usually cut from most showings. along with The Young Lions (1958) with Marlon Brando, Montgomery Clift, and Dean Martin it is probably THE best WWII themed anti-war movie ever made. plays again on Sony Movies Sunday April 17th @ 7:55am if you want to record. I rate it of four

watched Sleepers (1996) last night on the Encore channel. VERY under-rated crime-"revenge"-courtroom drama with Jason Patric, Brad Pitt, Minnie Driver, Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman and Kevin Bacon. Vittorio Gassmann outstanding as "King Benny" as was the late Bruno Kirby as Patric's character "Shakes" father. relatively unknown actors Billy Crudup and Ron Eldard both excellent as the two "Westies" hoods, Tommy Marcano and John Reilly. the young boys that played the "crew" as children were also outstanding. I think that along with John Grisham's The Rainmaker (1997) and Nell Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) it is one of THE best acted courtroom dramas EVER and I obviously rate it of four. hopefully will re-peat again soon

I agree with you 100% Rink. I love this movie and a lot of people can't get through with it because of the pure evil of Bacon's character. I tried to watch it with my ex-girl and she couldn't watch it because of the content. I feel it hurt it's ratings as this is great movie.
Underrated courtroom drama is an understatement.
Sleepers is a 4 out of 4 for me

The Wild Bunch (1969) Sam Peckinpah's classic "ultra-violent" western played on HD Net movies last night. all star cast of William Holden, Ernest Borgnine, Ben Johnson and Warren Oates as the outlaws with Robert Ryan as a former gang member tasked to hunt them down. supporting roles by Edmond O'Brien as Freddie, who probably has the best monolog in the movie "They? Who the Hell is They?", Strother Martin and Bo Hopkins. Jaime Sánchez, who earlier in his career played in The Pawnbroker (1961) with Rod Steiger, is excellent as the young gang member Angel. plays again on HD Net movies Saturday April 23rd @ 12:25am (just after midnight Friday) and Tuesday April 26th @ 8:20 am. I think it's is a "bucket list must see" at least once and I rate it of four
also the courtroom drama The Rainmaker (1997) with Matt Damon, Danny DeVito, Jon Voight, Danny Glover, Roy Scheider and Mickey Rourke plays on the HBO-Z channel Friday April 22nd @ 1:40pm. for me it is yet another "bucket list must see" rated of four movie

A Walk Among the Tombstones (2014) Liam Neeson, Dan Stevens
Private investigator Matthew Scudder is hired by a drug kingpin to find out who kidnapped and murdered his wife.
2.5/4 dog bones
I went in thinking that this was going to be an action packed Liam movie again but that was not the case. This was more of a slow buildup to who dun it. Probably need one of those jumbo size popcorns to chew on for a while.

watched three Fritz Lang directed German classics the other night on Turner Classic Movies
Metropolis (1927) the early Sci-Fi silent classic which had outstanding special effects for it's day. worth viewing at least once just for the "Maschinenmensch" transformation scene >>> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcReykfvqi4
M (1931) Lang's first sound film was a tour de force for young German actor Peter Lorre as the obsessed child murder Hans Beckert and Otto Wernicke as police Inspector Karl Lohmann trying to catch him
The Testament of Dr. Mabuse (1933). another Lang crime drama once again with Otto Wernicke as police Inspector Karl Lohmann chasing an insane but brilliant master criminal
all three worth watching at least once just for the hiastory of pre-NAZ! German cinema. I rate all three of four

The Grapes of Wrath (1940) the John Ford directed (Best Director Oscar) classic from the John Steinbeck novel about an Oklahoma "dust bowl" family, the Joad's, losing their farm and migrating to California is yet another "bucket list must see" movie at least once. outstanding cast of Henry Fonda as Tom Joad (Best Actor Oscar nomination), Jane Darwell as Ma Joad (Best Supporting Actress Oscar), Charley Grapewin as Grandpa Joad and John Carradine as Joad family friend Jim Casy. it is a POWERFUL movie about The Great Depression. played on Cinemax last Sunday and hopefull will re-peat soon. generally shows ever so often on Turner Classic Movies. obviously I rate it of four.
The Kingdom (2007) pretty good action-thriller loosely based on the 1996 bombing of the American Khobar housing complex and the Riyadh compound in 2003 in Saudi Arabia. worth watching just for the first 10 minutes overview which details the rise of Saudi oil production and the backlash from ultra-conservative Wahhabist Muslims to allowing "infidel westerners" to operate in in their country. stars Jamie Foxx. Chris Cooper, Jennifer Garner and Jason Bateman as the FBI team sent to investigate the bombing. Israeli actor Ashraf Barhom excellent as the Saudi State Police Colonel who tryies the help the FBI team despite Saudi government interference. good story which shows just how damn duplicitous the Saudi government really is in their dealings with America. has excellent action mostly at the end it . plays on Cinemax channels again Tuesday April 26th, Thursday the 28th and Friday the 29th. I rate it of four

Drunk, Stoned, Brilliant, Dead (2015) 90 minute documentary about the history of The National Lampoon magazine and its empire of spin-offs esp National Lampoon Radio who's performers including Chevy Chase, John Belushi and Gilda Radner became the core of the original Saturday Night Live. really well done fast paced Doc that is absolutely hilarious. plays again on The Movie Channel Thursday April 28th @ 7:00pm and 10:00pm pacific time. I rate it of four
Terminator: Genisys (2015) The fifth installment in the Terminator franchise stars Arnold Schwarzenegger with Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, and Jai Courtney. has oodles of the standard Terminator chase scenes, ordnance and "stuff that goes boom" pretty much non-stop along with some VERY funny scenes and one liners from Arnold. gotta hand it to him that just like Sylvester Stallone, Schwarzenegger can still pull off being an action movie star at age 69. I found the movie entertaining even with the somewhat convoluted plot.. plays again on EPIX2 Thursday May 5th @ 10:50am pacific time. I rate it of four
