IRONMAN a totally awesome film!!!!!!!!!!

I was only expecting an average run of the mill movie when I went to the theater but I came out totally entertained.  This film is super great.
 
Robert Downey Jr. plays John Stark the president of a weapons manufacturing company.  John's father worked on the atomic bomb project before creating the company that John is the head of and John was an engineering genius at an early age graduating from MIT with honors at age 17.  He is a total narcisist lock in the psychological maturity of an adolescent thinking he is indestructable because of this immense intellect.  He puts himself in dangerous situations without totally testing the stability and limits of his inventions because he is so arrogant believing his genius intellect will get him through every situation without a scratch.  He is a womanizer and has "one night stand" flings with exceptionally beautify women then tosses them aside like yesterday's newspaper.  He is the ultimate male ego.
 
Of course the film has fantastic special effects and action literally exploding everywhere but what makes this film a truely great success is the comedic relief throughout the film.  I and everyone around me in the theater laughed hysterically practicly throughout the entire film.  Great job on the script and the actors nail the lines and scenes perfectly.
 
also starring in the film are Jeff Bridges, 4 time Academy Award Nominee. Gwyneth Paltrow, Academy Award for best Actress in SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE.  Terrence Howard, Academy Award Nominee for role in HUSTLE & FLOW.
 
I loved this film so much that intend to pay theater admission to see it a few more time before it comes out on DVD.

I forgot to mention there is a cameo appearance by Jessica Alba which in combination with the ending of the film may suggest a definite sequel or Jessica Alba may have been too pregnant during the time of the filming to fullfill a hottie role but had to appear for contractual reasons...I think it's more likely the suggestion for sequel though.

it wasn't an entirely bad flick as far as comic book superhero movies go, but more generally, i'd say it's average as best.  i guess special effects and superpowers don't wow me the way they do some people.

Dude I must have totally missed that....when was she in the movie??

the only cameo I can think of was Samuel L. Jackson as the leader of S.H.I.E.L.D.  (but you had to wait until after the credits to catch the scene when he confronts Tony Stark)

 

 

 

other than that....solid solid flick

I agree, that was one totally entertaining movie.  The characters and everything just seemed to work great.

well, I missed Samuel L. Jackson...I hate missing cameos in films.  Jessica Alba appears in one of the news conference scenes in the audience.

Did she have a speaking role?   DAMN I MISSED HER

Sam Jackson played Nick Fury (the leader of S.H.I.E.L.D.)....it was a "stinger" cameo....you had to wait until after the credits ended for the short scene

you mentioned you were going to see the film again so now you know to wait until after the credits end.....

I now have to go see this again to check out Ms. Alba....I cant believe I missed her

Thanks Worldcontrol.......I'm looking forward to it, and I'll have to keep an eye out for that Jessica Alba cameo..

One of my favorite comic characters. Have the entire run of vol #1 and about half of his Tales of Suspense issues.......

OK good...then I just missed her.....I'm planning on seeing it again in a couple of weeks so I will be on the lookout

 

World was it the first press conference when he just got back from the middle east?  or was it at the end of the movie?

I really liked the film and I have never been a big fan of super hero movies.  RDJ played his role great...

I have to appologize to all the readers of this topic because I just went to see the film for a 2nd time today and the person I thought was Jessica Alba in the audience of the press conference was someone else...so sorry about the incorrect cameo information.
 
  After staying until after the credits to see Samuel L. Jackson's introduction as Nick Fury, I would have to say that a sequel is not a guaranteed deal.  It looked to me to be more of an introduction for a movie that will have multiple MARVEL COMIC characters.

I agree that we will most likley see a SHIELD movie....
 
But with the success of the first Iron Man film one would have to think they will make another....

First off I made another mistake (this is starting to be a habit) The character Robert Downey Jr. plays in this film is Tony Stark not John Stark as I wrote in the main intro to this topic.
 
Just a quick note.  Robert Downey Jr. will have a cameo appearance as Tony Stark in the film THE INCREDIBLE HULK due to be released on June 13th of this year.

I enjoyed the movie.
 
The teaser at the end was good.
 
Look for an Avengers Movie around the corner.  That should be cool.

good flick, there will definiatly be a sequel. didn't he look at something and say "maybe next time?" something in his shop? I always drink at the movies in the balcony and have a hard time remembering the endings.

Yes, Terrance Howard plays the character who in the  comic books actually becomes Iron Man for a bit after Downey becomes a homeless alcoholic.

He looked at another Iron Man suit...and thought about putting it on to help Stark defeat Obadiah Stane......but then said maybe next time

 

We will see a sequel....all the stars are signed on....the script is done.....filming begins next year with a release date of April 30, 2010

In fact all the stars are also signed on for a 3rd Iron Man film as well.

Then at some point you will see a movie called

The First Avenger: Captain America

THEN

We will see a S.H.E.I.L.D. movie staring Sam Jackson (Ed Norton and RDJ are in negotiations to star in the film as well as Hulk and Iron Man and then whoever is chosen to play Captain America will already be signed on for this film in his CA deal).....there is already a script in the works for this film as well.....most likley will be called The Avengers (but expect to see more Sam Jackson cameos in the other films -and not after the credits this time lol-)

So to sum it all up 4 more movies will be made to make 6 overall....not to mention MAYBE another Hulk film (that would make 7)

 

 

Funny thing is I'm not a comic book fan.....just love comic book movies.....go figure
