I've got a short list and its similar to many of you boys who clearly know your shit. Rap has evolved so much, that its difficult to compare the originators to the guys out there today. What you need to do, is look at how far advanced the guys of the past were for their time and then you will see how the majority of votes are going to the "founding fathers"- for lack of a better word. In recent years, yes, you'd have to say Big and Jay hands down...but my all time list includes (in no particular order):
Rakim
KRS-1
Chuck D
Bee Eye Gee
BDK- Honorable Mention
And two more things:
Big L Rest in Peace!
Premo is by FAAAAAAAAAR the greatest producer...east, west, north or south...location is irrelavent.
ONE!

Holy Shit! I may burn for forgetting this one....but on my all time list is absolutely NAS!!! This boy has been TIGHT since day 1.
If any of you younger guys, or older for that matter have never listened to him come out on Main Source's "Live at the BBQ"...you must do it now. My estimate is he must have been like 16 when he did it. I'm 33 now and when that came out, I was in my prime as far as listening to hip hop.

Greatest rap song ever: I got 5 on it...the Goonies
Greatest rapper ever? That is really, really tough, but I would look to the pioneers like Run-DMC and Public Enemy. Big Daddy Kane, Heavy D and Ton Loc changed rap and made it more danceclub friendly.
Recently, Snoop, but I haven't been heavy into rap for a while.

Don't know who the greatest of all time is, but I think eminem is unreal.
I wasn't a huge fan at first. I had his "Eminem Show" and "Encore" albums, but never really listened to it. Then one day, after blazing a joint, put his cd in and checked out the words. I was blown away by the way he makes his lyrics rhyme together, and its hilarious. To me, it's like his raps are like tongue twisters. He is definitely a "word wizard" like he says in one of his songs.

Dude rap is on the down low and it always will be. Put some Pantera on your fucking headphones that will liven up the party. Rap is crap rock-roll is here to stay and heavy metal still rules. Black Sabbath are the gods bitch ask any fucking rapper.
