For those of you with an HBO subscription, I highly recommend this mini-series.  I only saw the first episode but it has a lot of promise.  Nothing but high praise from real critics (not just @ssholes like myself and Rink, hahaha).

Set in 2014 in NYC, it's about a Pakstani-American college kid who spends the night with a female stranger after a hard night of partying.  He wakes up to find her dead and is subsequently charged with her murder.

There's 2 more episodes that have been aired already so please no spoilers!

9.1/10 on IMDB and 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.

For Wire fans, Omar and Bodie are in it.

yup, like this too, like most HBO series, great cast, top notch acting and sets.

    SPOILER down below.

The end of the last episode was .  Also, the conversation between the D.A. and the pathologist about the cut on Naz's hand was scary in a different way.

    Everyone is a criminal.

I am through episode 2 and the writing is top notch...

Tuturro is superb as usual and the perspectives they offer are very believable and realistic.

I like it...reminds me of the Fargo series...

    I passed over it too.

Why would anyone post a spoiler?  It's a lack of common decency.

    What a douche

Plenty of twists and turns...makes you wonder what the end result will be.

Great show so far, every character is unique and memorable, lots of quirks and oddities.

After the last episode they are really throwing curve balls.

    2 more episodes left???

Why am I feeling that they are not properly tying this thing up? So many open ended possibilities and now they are not going to have enough time to properly close it.

They spent 80% of the show getting to the trial, it does not leave much for uncovering anything...which makes me think that.....

I feel the same way.  I thought it was supposed to be 9 parts and not 8.  This show started out with so much promise.  It's still good, but I have a feeling like the conclusion may let me down.  I guess we'll see.

I love Freddy's character.  Michael K Williams is a great actor.

John Turturro is always a good watch, even doing a turn as Columbo turned lawyer. However, although the first few episodes got my attention, the last couple ( particularly the prison inmate scenes ) have been both boring and unrealistic, in my opinion. I'm invested enough to watch to see how it ends, but I won't be sorry when it's over.

    I kind of agree..

They spent so much time weaving an interesting character set and potential plot layers and twists yet they stick us with the gross and uninteresting prison crap for the very critical middle part of the series.

If I had known this was not really about what they led us on about at the start, I would not have enjoyed it as much with how uninteresting this obvious ending is heading towards.

I think you capture the problem with the lack of character development better than I described my frustration in my earlier post. Okay, we get it. Turturro is a sweet guy with a soft spot for struggling hookers and stray cats. But aren't we supposed to care about the kid who got arrested for the murder ? He's nowhere to be found in the story most of the time. And when he is around, they've turned a scrawny, seemingly sweet kid into a bulked up, head-shaven prison tough guy. Ridiculous ! And the sensitive, "mind in need of nourishing" prison inmate types ? Please. I didn't know you could "jump the shark" in a show of such limited duration. Dr. Kevorkian should have intervened on this one three episodes ago.

Interesting episode last night..after it is all finished maybe we can discuss our specific thoughts but I dont want to spoil anything now.

Thanks WSC.  I missed last night's episode. Watching it after work.

Even though I didn't read it, I don't know why that other poster gave away a spoiler.  Inconsiderate

There has to be a second part of this mini-series.

I can't see them wrapping this up in one more episode.  If it's rushed, I will be highly disappointed.

I put a spoiler at the top so anyone that hadn't caught up wouldn't read it, which is being considerate. After you catch up from last Sunday, read what I wrote. You should at that point realize I wasn't being a douche. It was just an observation from that episode.

I'm curious to hear what people thought at the end of the show.

I thought it ended appropriately.  It's hard to think how I would decide if I was a juror.  Stone's closing argument may have persuaded me, but Naz testifying was just a train wreck.

There's talk about a second season; different story though.  I'd like to see it. Maybe make it an anthology series like American Horror Story or American Crime Story.

    I was not disappointed.

3.5 out of 4 for me.

    Slobbasaurus

I completely agreed with your early rating of the show and I enjoy your write-ups. However, I have a different opinion about the middle and particularly the ending. Is it too soon to share specifics ? I don't want to do one of these "spoiler" things to ruin it for someone.

    I appreciate that Ken.

I'd give it maybe another month or so.  Don't ruin it for anyone who aren't fully caught up.  Last episode only aired last night.
