Looks like they're going in an opposite direction now. With the new stadium set to open...it looks like they're trying to make a splash and get the big names to draw fans. In the past...yea they had good teams with good players...but the fans knew the team wasn't going to keep them. Different situation now.

But Prince Fielder would!!
I personally think they would be throwing money away signing a gimp like Reyes. Buerhle would all depend on what the tag would be. IMO, he's only an average pitcher. I'm not sure he'd even be considered a top free agent if he wasn't left handed.

Average? He's thrown a no hitter and a perfect game and also has the record for most consecutive batters retired when he pitched 5+ innings of no-hit baseball following his perfect game. Plus he's won 10 games in 10 straight seasons.
Finally...in 23 of his 31 starts this season...he gave up 3 or less earned runs. And 4 of those bad starts came in the first 5 games of the season when he got off to a bad start before rattling off 18 straight games of starts allowing 3 or less runs.
Average is a 4.50 ERA. He had nearly a full run lower than that IN the American League and IN a hitters park in Chicago. Put him in the NL and he'll be solid.
