LHP Clayton Kershaw for the Dodgers. He is 2-1 with a 1.16ERA/0.69whip/.156BAA after going 14-9 2.53/1.02/.210 last year. In 17 starts vs SD over his career he has compiled a line of 2.28/1.16/.214. He is 6-1 with a 1.85ERA in his last 10 starts vs SD. He is dominant at home, posting a line of 2.05/1.02/.210 last year, and a very similar career line of 2.29/1.08/.205. These are elite numbers, no question about it.
SD only hits .225 off LHP this year, with a OPS of .625. They have but 1HR in 120ab versus lefties. Last year they were in the bottom half of the league in OPS vs lefties too. Quentin is serving his suspension, which further depletes the lineup, and while they may be getting Headley back from the DL, he is only hitting .184 vs Kershaw.
Tyson Ross goes for the Padres, bringing with him a 0-1 record and a line of 4.82/1.61/.229. Yes, a .229BAA, but he walks a tonne of batters which plays nicely into the Dodgers hands, as they rank 7th in mlb in free passes after being in the top half of the league last year. Ross' line last year while with Oakland was 2-11 6.50/1.81/.327. Horrible.
I'm not a big fan of giving up a run with the Dodger's inconsistent offence, but this is more about Kershaw, his home dominance and dominance over SD.
