August is a tough month because I just don't find any clear and consistent trends at this point of the season. July is easy; take home favorites on the blind; April is easy and September is usually easy (althought not so much lately since the new wild card spot was added): take dogs almost on the blind. I usually sit back a bit in August and start hitting dogs harder in September and in the playoffs.
I do have a play I like for today though, and I am sure there are tons of things you can find wrong with it, but you always will, and the value is here. Let's go with the Royals:
Kansas City Royals +128 vs Detroit Tigers
$685 to win $876.80
One big thought (of quite a number on this one) is that, last game, we had the Royals keeping their last game tight with the Twins in Minnesota. 1-1 game into the 4th and the Royals banged in 6 runs in one inning and opened things up. The key thing I was liking was that they kept their foot on the pedal and dialed up 4 more runs after that. Generally, the Royals have a lot of unfavorable season to date stats in this one (eg. 17-38 on the road since Apr 16th). A significant pct of the public is going against a quality, working hard now on getting to .500 team betting for a plus .500 good team that might not take them seriously here...

I got on the BALTIMORE ORIOLES +108 earlier this morning.
The line is now -130 -- I was just going to put this pick out here, but the line lost value. Still, public is fading them hard. I'd avoid the pick and pass today.
The Brewers look like a possibility and the Under in Pittsburgh.
