How do the Oddsmakers know?

Lester has great career numbers vs TOR. There is only one decent guy hitting good against them and that’s mighty Izturis. On the other hand Morrow has awful numbers vs the Red Sox. Lester has had a great year so far while Morrow has had a horrible year. TOR has been the worst team in the division while BOS has been the best. Red Sox are coming off a winning streak, Jays coming off a losing streak.

So what do the odds makers do? They set a trap of a line at Red Sox -119. Just absolutely begging people to put money on Boston.

So far in the first inning, Morrow is actually locating his slider (something he is yet to be able to do in a game) and hes hit 99 mph on a few pitches (dispute people questioning his velocity in his starts so far this year). And the Jays are leading 1-0.

Now obviously the Jays could still lose this game but how did the odds makers know to set a trap line on BOS?

stop this trap garbage with baseballi see it all the time on here, and when the "trap" team wins the people screaming trap just disapearLester had a 7.27 era vs the Bjays last year in 26 innings last year, the line opened at -130 so at least get  your facts straight.

ok well now the starters are out and the red sox are winning so i guess they didnt know.  so now if the blue jays win will the next thread be how did oddsmakers know the sox pen would blow it in the late innings?

At the end of the day it&#x27;s their job to know more than us.  It doesn&#x27;t mean they "know" who will win but they knew the odds of a Boston victory was less than we may have thought.Lester had a 7.27 ERA last season against Toronto but his WHIP and BAA were both very good, suggesting he just had some bad luck against them.

some bad luck maybe but BAA is a dumb stat

There are some baseball lines that are just off- they arent traps. You have 15 games a day, relatively little money is bet on them and they have to come up with lines every day. Sometimes bad lines just slip through the cracks.

This was not one of those games. -130 (opening line)was a fair and reasonable line.His last start he was -160 at home vs Oakland without Cespedes and Brett Anderson pitching who is a worse pitcher than morrow.Realistically if he's -160 at home vs Anderson wtf do you think he's going to be on the road vs Morrow?

line open @ -123 then kept going down....should of saw the symptoms...but i ignore it due to Bos recent success and Lester success against TOR....arggg....this game erk me!!!

There are plenty of these types of lines throughout the season where you think its a trap and the low line still wins.  Its tough to know when to pick it &amp; get on the other side.  Just need to pick your spots and be a little fortunate.
