Yeah, he has settled down some. 17 strikes to 8 balls is a solid 68% strike rate, and the 96 mph fastball tells us the stuff is there. He is also leaning on the fastball-slider combination exactly as expected.

The pitch count is a little high, but after that ugly first inning it is manageable. Let lard ass finish this inning around 27 to 30 pitches, then give us a quick 10-pitch third. The important part is that he is throwing strikes now and not losing the zone

Right now he’s pitching Atlanta backward:

Changeup 28% at 90 mph
Cutter 28% at 91 mph
Fastball 20% at 95 mph
Slider 16% at 85 mph
Curve 8% at 82 mph

So 56% of everything is changeup/cutter, both coming in around 90–91. He’s keeping them off balance

Second time through: 6.57 ERA, only 28 strikeouts in 162 batters faced.

The batting average stays almost identical, but his strikeout ability drops sharply and the damage starts clustering. The third time through is where hitters really square him up: .340 average and .395 wOBA
