Oakland brings in the lefty, Basso, and he gets through the inning. Simple now put up a clean zero in the bottom. We’ll probably see him again next inning, but Washington has handled the lefties just fine today

77 pitches through six, 52 strikes, 25 balls, no walks, and only one run allowed. That is a hell of an outing.
He battled through the one rough spot, settled right back down, and gave Washington everything it needed. Could not ask for anything more from the kid. ![]()

I think Griffin comes back out for the seventh. He is only at 77 pitches, his control has been solid, and there is no reason to pull him after six strong innings.
My guess is he starts it with a short leash. First real trouble or a hard-hit baserunner, and they probably go get him.

His last four starts before today
July 8 vs. Houston: 99 pitches
July 3 vs. Pittsburgh: 83 pitches
June 27 at Baltimore: 112 pitches
June 22 vs. Philadelphia: 105 pitches

Top of the eighth, and I’d really like to grab one more insurance run here. Griffin is at 94 pitches and has been excellent, so I’m not sure whether they send him back out or turn it over to the bullpen. We’ll deal with that when it comes, but right now let’s add one and give ourselves some breathing room for the RL

@countrybob
Bob, I handicapped the Washington game for six hours. Only three times all season have I bet the first five, moneyline, and run line on the same game. I don’t know how today finishes, but I swept the previous two times. Did you play Washington at all, or did you just go with Detroit
