It went up this year.
There were 5 who died during racing, 5 related to training & 3 with other health issues. Seven others passed during the Belmont & 4th of July weekends for a total of 20
In 2024 the #'s were 1,2 & & 2.
Not good but there is no finger pointing as the NYRA is probably the most prestigious racing organization & have been looking to resolve the issues since at least 2023 when there were 17 fatalities.
But why 15 more deaths? People point to the breeding for speed as a major piece of the puzzle.
There are so many questions but I would bet it's a combination of issues including track surfaces that have regularly taken the blame in the past.
