Pompano Park Will Be Destroyed Tomorrow

I first visited this place when I moved to South Florida in 1976. It was the Winter Capital of Harness Racing getting 10 to 12 thousand on a Friday or Saturday night. 

Tomorrow demolition begins as Harrah's take over the property..

Memories of an era remain. 

Sad indeed. Never got out there but played its simulcast often in the evenings. 

where will all the crooked horseman go? they are barred in most other states

 Seeing them moving up the coast sure a few of them feel right at home at Pocono

Former racetrack workers have stopped construction of the new casino because it may displace burrowing owls living on the property & they are a threatened specie in Florida.

Looks like the owls may be left homeless like so many in the country.
