Thank goodness just about everyone who posts here knows how much difference a jockey makes in a race. For those of you who are reatively new to this forum, from time to time, we get some drive-bys who think the jockey is nothing but a Bobble-Head placed on top of Nervous Nellie or Sammy Stallion.
BULLSHIT!
What Mike Smith did today was phenominal. The horse had trouble loading the first time THEN had to load again after the scratch! She was nervous, but not washed, so I am sure Smith knew he had a chance.
She came out totally rank and I thought she'd finish 30 lenghts behind, then like your old Uncle Delbert knocks on the door just as dinner is about to be served!
The move to gun down my three picks Gio, Summer Bird and Twice Over ( to kill my tri's and exactas) was as good as it gets, but as much as this hurt me, I have to tell you how great as a horseplayer it was to see all 13 of them busting their asses on the track.
I beseach all of you to watch the replay of this race anytime you start to doubt the importance of a jockey on a horse.

She came out totally rank....saw this and thought she was not ready today. What Smith normally does with her is just swing wide on the top and let her do her stuff. He knew he could not do this against these. Kept her inside and swung her deeper than normal. This horse (that I have never stopped talking about) showed that late kick and huge heart. To be honest I doubted her in this spot cuz she never ran agaisnt this tuff a group. I am sure you and I will ever agree on the RA/Z comparision but today belongs to my girlfriend. So I will rue the day until we can get them together. Both owners should agree (hope) that Z ships east (actually did but track was mud) to run on the dirt and RA ships west to run on the rubber. Would be good for whats left of the former King of Sports. Please no match race!!! Ruffian/Foolish Pleasure just turned my stomach.

Mike what did you think of QR just freaking out. Never seen a horse do that, at least not that bad. I personally think it was drugs. Another thing killing this sport. You know I have always dreamed about owning a few but you just cant. The feed and vet bills alone will kill the average joe. Did you hear owner Lady C in the winners circle. They asked what she thought, she said she didn`t watch the race. Lol...was she in the can?

And Mike, sorry for when I first came on board. Chip on my shoulder I guess and the board was always dead. Was just trying to wake this up cuz so many good cappers out there. (SOZE CIGAR YOU HEAR ME) Really like all you guys and all the info. Not many know how to play this game and even so its a killer. And once again thank you Arnold the worst govener in the history of California for proposing a 25% takeout. Biggest event in Cali today...was he there?

Mikey, you know that I was with you on your thought about Z facing the boys. I think even Kursh had his doubts about his girlfriend's spot this afternoon, but she has probably forever silenced her doubters as she'll probably never race again.
Sadly, I think the best we are going to get is seeing RA and Zs overspring duel it out

I'm so glad to see you two getting along...

what we need is a dirt track to put a big purse for these two to meet up I think having a horse like Careless Jewel in the race for speed pressure would help Zenyatta but what kind of closing horse could help RA and how do u decide on a distance it must be a classic distance 1 1/4 or more u need other horses in the race so they should run for free to grab the money and make the purse pay out good enuff for there pieces something of that nature i think would make the race a great one i guess a speed freak like careless jewel would help Z and a big field would help RA thats how i think it should be done

i really think they each win on home court- zen wins on all weather (better for closing style) and ra on dirt (better for pace horses) i dont want to see it however as both should retire now sound after giving us a great show-- i hated when dw lukas took azeri over and made her run after the tendon injury- that was classless by him and paulson

Yes/...as as we have been saying over the years, it's another reason the game is dying. There are no Secretariats, Seabiscuits or Affirmed's out there to follow and hang on to anymore.
It's one of the reason why we have gotten so excited when a horse takes the first two legs of the Triple Crown....we pretty much know it's over for the horse after the Belmoint or Travers.
IF the foaling problem and lack of good broodmares continues, we just might see a few of the males hanging around a bit longer. Sale prices are way down. Here in Illinois, yu can't give a horse away. One breeder told me recently that he is giving away broodmares because there are few decent ILL sires...and he is having a tough time getting anyone to take the broodmares.
Even AP INDY just got his std fee clipped.
Sadly, I think the best we are going to get is seeing RA and Zs overspring duel it out

I watched all of the BC race preview videos on drf.com with Crist and Watchmaker and when they discussed the BC Mile, they floated an idea ...... As more and more of these horses will be nearly all-bred for the poly in the future, the BC might have to add a "poly-special" race or two to be run at SA on the same day the BC is held at Churchill (next year) or other dirt tracks.
Pretty interesting.

I have to think this is it for her.....what's left for Zenyatta to accomplish, unless Rachel comes out of hiding.
I think win on dirt. I'd love to see her and RA get to the Classic next year. 14-0 is unreal to say the least. The traditionalist in me would still like to see her win on dirt.

BULL she did venture to oaklawn and win the 08 appleblossom oaklawn is dirt still correct?
Yes she did. Her 3rd start won by 4 1/2. First time Mike rode her. In fact her beyer was 104 that race. And she shipped to CD for the big Filly race before the deby but the track was soup.

Hope you like my photo and my 100 threads about her. I will never take away anything from RA. Just asking but if RA had run would Z have caught her. I think she would have. She likes to win and just motors in the stretch. Never seen anything like it since Secreteriat. Seemed like that horse was human and mugged for the cameras.

and I think Regal Ransom would have tired RA out with his fractions just like Big Drama somewhat did do in the Preakness but watch out for them two birdstone colts next year on dirt back here in the east I think they will be the two top horses next year on dirt
