I once got pulled over with a few grams on me, and I had it in my pocket. The cop asked to search my car maybe 5 or 6 times, and I kept saying no. There is no probable cause and I would not give consent.

He told me he was going to impound my car and search it, and I finally said he could search it (knowing there was nothing in it) He brought dogs, searched my car for 20 minutes and then let me go on my way.

I really think telling him he could not search my car made him think if i had anything, it was in my car. Scary situation, but I think I handled it as well as I could. No idea why he didn't search me though, or he would have found it.

Well, if you read his post, he wasn't above the legal limit which is set so low for a purpose so he didn't committ any crime.

BTW, is it legal in your state to drive while drinking a beer in your state regardless if you are above the legal limit or not?

My apology. I missed the "open can" part. Now, I am wondering why the cop didn't at least write him a ticket.

Did anyone click the picture GOOSE posted?

If this kid wasnt selling pot  id blow Karl Malone.

Marijuana separated, albeit not in small baggies, still
    in different quantities.

    20's for days, 10's and 5's?

    A scale?

I am a big marijuana supporter , smoke daily. But dont come here saying, this is normal. The kid sold pot. Easy to see.

I am also against the crooked police, and have been in many threads saying so. Many dont like me on here because of it.

The best thing you can do is be respectful. Just always use sir and keep our answers very simple and direct.

Cops cannot search your car for the hell of it, but they can with probable cause. Thats the grey area.

Thats why if you have any drugs on you, never have the car smell like bud or any thing laying around the cops can see. Learned the hard way.

be safe, be respectful and like goose said. Know your rights and don't let cops use their words to trick you...and for the love of god never use the phrase "i swear to god." I see this all the times on Cops or Campus PD or whatever. If you use the phrase I swear to god, you are lying and its a red flag

Yes guys. Don't learn the hard way but rather let's all just get better at concealing our drugs and paraphernalia better so that cops never get probable cause to search your drug filled car.

These are the important messages we need to be sending to our kids

Yea but having nothing to hide applies to almost no one in this thread so its a major deal to most of them. This issue is what you call a first world problem

The real irony is when someone cries about being unlucky in college basketball, says he is done posting....and then posts the next day..Thats irony isn't it?

Not sure where you are getting at with your statement. I know you don't like me, so you will find fault with anything I say. which is fine.

I will simply assume there are no kindergarten kids on a gambling website, so no I see no irony in my previous statement.

If the kids are reading this. Don't do drugs son ...Glad i could help those young bucks taking drug advice from the random guy they never met on a gambling forum.

Most of the guys I know in law enforcement are quality people-
But, make no mistake- in today's climate, they generate tons of revenue for their municipalities, counties, states, etc.
So any way to drag you into the system is in play-

Since "probable cause" is so vague- acting like a know-it-all dick probably isn't your best play-
Since I have "matured"- I try not to give them a hard time- if they pull me over I generally comply with their request as I have nothing to hide- then we both go on our way- sometimes with a ticket, sometimes not...
Being a dick would only drag out the process and end up with the same result-
Most-by a large %-of law enforcement are decent normal folks just doing their job- if you make it more difficult, they will react the same way you do in your job when someone intentionally makes it more difficult.....

    DSN,

the topic is so difficult because there is a thin line to be drawn between "you are infringing on my rights" at some point and  "I don't mind you searching my vehicle because I have nothing to hide." Sure you could argue that the only ones that don't allow the searches are the guilty ones but we still have the same civic responsibility to preserve our freedoms regardless of the presence or absence of guilt. This is part of where I become torn between both sides because the logical part of you says just let him search you if you have nothing to hide but the other part of me says that kind of thinking sets a bad precedent for government infringing into your daily life. It's not as black and white as we try to make it be.

    Earthquake,

I never said I didn't like you. I guess I am a little confused by you saying you learned your lesson the hard way and to hide things in the car and keep it out of normal vision and to keep the car free of MJ smell so that cops don't find your stash. I guess I would expect the more reasonable citizen to not brings drugs in their car with them or use them at all...that's how you learn the hard way because if you continue to carry drugs on you but attempt to hide or mask it then clearly no lessons have been learned in that case have they? To me it seems like an azz backwards approach to common sense thinking but maybe that's just me.

VV- I agree with you for the most part-
And I agree with the idea of retaining/protecting my constitutional rights-
I just don't find this situation one that I want to pursue-
I figure if I make their life more difficult- they can make mine much more difficult- over essentially a constitutional argument that is pervaded with vague requirements (probable cause)

I guess I'm just old and boring as I really have nothing to hide and just want to be on my way....

I go by the rule of just avoiding the police completely. They have so much Gestapo power it's unreal. They will always beat you in court because they simply lie. Judges ALWAYS side with a cop's testimony....ALWAYS.

Ya cannot win guys. Do not give them a reason to pull you over.
