Which is the best Covid test kit available at the pharmacy

I got a sinus drip for three weeks that has made my throat score and now I feel achy....Also I have Covid syndrome in the back of my mind!

They're all hit or miss but I have seen covid detected by them so they're not completely worthless. They are all prone to false negatives though. Even when used correctly, which they often aren't. Just read the instructions. Specifically, some are designed for you to go deep with the q-tip. Some are designed for you to go not as deep.

 Thanx Stump, I was able to get 4 Binax kits for 23 tested at noon was negative will test in the morning before I go to the doctor I’m hoping for a sinus infection bad drip cause sore throat. Lungs are clear so far

Is your congestion mucus producing? Usually sinus infections have some nasty yellow, green mucus. I haven't heard that with covid. A drip would definitely cause a sore throat. Binax is hit or miss. I've seen them catch covid. I've seen them miss it.

Dr said it is sinus infection he gave me to nasal sprays axlistine 2x twice a day flutscone 2x once a day and Allegra D said if it is still there by Friday come back ? 

My tool has the drip ....would the spray work for that also ?

what is the purpose of testing? they're at best 50% accurate. and say you do have covid, what are you going to do about it? there's no cure. if you're sick stay home for a week. stop testing and stop going to the hospital unless it gets so bad you need an ambulance.

It's a diagnostic. Testing is never bad. I'm not even just talking about covid, just in general. Let's you know where you stand.

While true, the "if you're sick, stay home" approach should work, in theory, but people are selfish. Or more so than selfish, people need to work. Pre-covid, it was not uncommon for people to come to work sick, even though nobody wants to catch a cold from a coworker, regardless of the virus of origin. All covid testing does is say, "Ok, you can't work through this one. Stay your ass at home."

I guess what I'm saying is testing and staying home when sick are the most important tools. Not vaccination. And people need to accept that they are gonna catch covid. From a coworker, from a family member, in line at the bank, and just hope that they are one of the 99% who just catch a cold.

I question if this omicron strain should even be classified as a SARS-CoV strain, as a strain of Corona virus more akin to a rhino virus, just causing a common cold.

The fear of SARS-CoV strains are the deadly respiratory/pulmonary conditions they can cause. It's literally their defining trait. If this variant isn't causing SARS at the same rates, well, something like 20-30% of common colds are cause by less deadly strains of coronavirus. If this omicron is not SARS-CoV, or better yet, even if genetically it is but not practically, which is what we are seeing, we need to tell people this. And we should not be shutting down.

It means be able to identify it specifically.

So you think that coronaviruses, which have been known about for fucking ever, that can be easily identified under microscope given their distinct spikes, giving them a "corona" like appearance, you think we haven't been able to "specifically identify" them?

Testing helps to identify those infected so that they can quarantine.  Early detection allows for use of anti-viral pills.  For minority who refuse to be vaccinated, testing may be a option for jobs or travel to keep economy running without lockdowns.  Of course, vaccination is better than frequent testing because it reduces the risk of severe illness.  Public health experts consider world vaccination the only way out of pandemic.

New antiviral pills for COVID-19 recently authorized for emergency use in high-risk people 

Pfizer's pill, Paxlovid, and Merck's molnupiravir won't be handed out to everyone who tests positive for COVID. They're approved for people with mild or moderate COVID who are more likely to become seriously ill -- mainly those 65 and older or folks who have chronic illnesses like heart disease, lung disease, diabetes, obesity or compromised immune systems.

However, both pills come with a complex list of health concerns that limit the patients to whom they can be prescribed:

• Paxlovid can be prescribed to kids 12 and older but molnupiravir can't, because of concerns that it might interfere with bone growth.
• Molnupiravir can't be prescribed to pregnant women because it carries a risk of birth defects. Men taking the drug are advised to use birth control for at least three months after the last dose, as the effect on sperm is not fully understood.
• Paxlovid isn't recommended for patients with severe kidney or liver problems.
• Both drugs can interact with other medications a person is taking.

Since January 2020, the virus that causes covid has been isolated and photographed in many countries.  For examples, China, US, Canada,Italy, etc.  Sequencing of genetic code allows for development of covid vaccines and tests.  Conspiracy theory claiming no isolated coronavirus exist has been debunked by many fact checkers.  For examples, Reuters,  full fact, associated press, health feedback, USA today, National institute of health and Center for disease control.
