Like the idiot that I am, I took the Jets late in the week which meant I got Gang Green at +7.5 instead of +9.5. The Patriots were up 27-21 late in the fourth quarter and picking up first downs at will on the ground.
New England was already in comfortable field goal range (ball inside the 20) when it came down to a 3rd and 2 with under two minutes to play. The Jets only had one timeout left so if the Pats picked up the 1st down they could just run out the clock.
But New York stuffed BenJarvis-Green Ellis’ run up the gut – the only time it did all second half – called a timeout and New England kicked a field goal to make it 30-21.
Well, I sure-as shit knew Dirty Sanchez wasn’t going to take the Jets down the field for a score with no clock stoppages and less than 1:30 left. My cover was gone and it was all because the team I bet on did something good.
I thought this was an abnormal situation, rooting against your underdog bet from hitting it out until the very end, when just laying down and accepting defeat would cover the spread.
Help me mourn my loss by sharing some similar spots you’ve found yourselves in, in the past.

When I have a bad beat, I just try to remember that I get some breaks occasionally, too. That's what I tell myself, anyway, even if I don't believe it.

same thing happened in the chargers/broncos game. if you had broncos +4, you were hoping for the chargers to get the first down to run out the clock. instead, broncos defense an gave unnecessary effort to force a field goal to put the chargers up 5 points with only half a minute remaining.

Lame Ass Cover...but we needed Saint Tebow to mount a comeback to even have a chance.

I once won a bet when the favorite (I was on the dog) fumbled the ball running out the clock and the dog took it to the house for 6 with virtually no time left.
Put down "moosed" and "lucked out" on a piece of paper and keep track of bets that fall into these categories for a couple of months. You'll be surprised how even they are. Lucky wins get rationalized by the old, "well, I knew I was on the right side." A sense of entitlement. When you get moosed, you basically feel like you had money stolen from you....not easy to forget.

There was a college basketball game a few years back where a guy was just dribbling the clock out. Right before time expired, he just flung it toward the basket underhanded (from around 30 feet) and swished the MF'er which changed the betting outcome of the game.
If Maine Road reads this, I think he knows what game I'm referring to. It's the most unbelieveable moose I've ever seen in my life.
