What happens first? Legal weed or legal gambling throughout the country?
Not sure if I would want either to be legal, but I would go with Weed whenever the Dems control Congress; if they ever do in the recent future.
I just don't see legal sports wabgering ever becoming a reality, and I'm fine with using a local with no tax implications.

The majority of justices sided with New Jersey in the Dec 4th argument. Do you think all those states that have introduced legislation (and some of them passed it) would do it without a sure thing from this Supreme Court decision.
Supreme Court just doesnt care about sports wagering at all. What was discussed was a violation of the 10th amendtment of the US constitution.
Sports betting will be legal. We're just waiting for justices to release the official opinion.

Sports betting very soon. Like maybe today. If not, 1 month max.
Weed in the next 5-10 years.
Both should and will be legal.

Since I live in Vegas, both gambling and recreational marijuana are both legal, so I am just laughing at all the rest. The bad thing though is that the Nevada Gaming Commision, otherwise known as God around here, wont allow DFS unless it is based here and they can control it, and so I cant participate on sites such as Fanduel or Draftkings which I really enjoyed back in the beginning before God stepped in and said no more.

i haven't been following the legal gambling issue other than reading the occasional thread from vanzack. i do follow the legal weed issue very closely. both seem to be on the path towards legalization. both should be legal, of course. which one becomes legal first? maybe the better question is which one will no longer be illegal at the federal level first?

vanzack, i think legal weed happens before 10 years. maybe 5. michigan may be turning this year and then illinois follows. after NJ, NY will follow. and then it shouldn't be long after that.
666, i agree they are states' rights issues, but the problem, as we all know, are the f*cking federal laws complicating things for the states. so, the key question is when gambling and weed will no longer be against federal law. after that, the states can do what they want. maybe all states don't legalize but it'll be hard to fight it after seeing how much revenue the legal states bring in.

Two people who I know through business have made a killing selling their agricultural licenses and property to other parties for the cultivation and distribution of medical marijuana. The buyers will be in a rock and a hard place when recreational usage becomes legal sooner rather than later.

that's an aggressive prediction for florida. it isn't happening under rick scott. nothing happens under rick scott that doesn't result in money in his or his family's pocket. but he's gone soon. we'll see who takes over. it's an interesting question. which state in the south will be first. my guess is north carolina, if that's considered the south. maybe florida.
the federal law really should have been the first to change since it's based on a schedule I classification that is so incredibly ridiculous and unscientific. but it is the federal government so who can expect them get things right. it is inevitable though. just a matter of time.
getty, ultimately, it's all, or at least mostly, about money, and states that have legalized are making a lot of it. some state in the south can really cash in by being the first to legalize. colorado had $1.5 billion in sales in 2017. can you imagine what florida could do with no competition for many miles?
