    Has anyone ever had it?

Getting sharp pains at times in my big toe from exerting a certain amount of pressure on it. It doesnt always hurt but from time to time?

    Not sure what it is?

Crus, Ive had the same thing in my big toe for quite a few years. The pain is brutally intense when it hits, and it comes from me doing nothing more than walking, with or without shoes. Crazy part is that right after I get one of these sharp pains, I can not duplicate it by manipulating the toe, walking, running, or anything else. No reason for when it hits, or why ... it just does.

IMO, something just hits a nerve ending wrong.

This is gonna sound like a stupid question, but trust me ... it might help with a diagnosis. Do your eyes itch like crazy sometimes?

Gout comes and goes. You can control it with diet.

This is what I read regarding gout symptoms and the only that applies is that it is my big toe...its not tender at all its really just a quick sharp pain. the rest arent even close.

    • Warmth, pain, swelling, and extreme tenderness in a joint, usually a big toe joint . This symptom is called podagra.
    • Pain that starts during the night and is so intense that even light pressure from a sheet is intolerable.
    • Rapid increase in discomfort, lasting for some hours of the night and then easing during the next few days.
    • As the gout attack subsides, the skin around the affected joint may peel and feel itchy.

    Other symptoms may include:

    • Very red or purplish skin around the affected joint, which may appear to be infected.
    • Fever.
    • Limited movement in the affected joint.

    Symptoms of gout vary.

    • Symptoms may occur after an illness or surgery.
    • Some people may not experience gout as many painful attacks but rather develop chronic gout. Chronic gout in older adults may be less painful and can be confused with other forms of arthritis.
    • Gout may first appear as nodules (tophi) on the hands, elbows, or ears. There may be no classic symptoms of a gout attack.

OK, just asking to rule something out. I was thinking there was a possibility of it being a reactive form of arthritis called Reiter's Syndrome. It sometimes starts with the toe pain and moves to larger joints. It can be triggered by everything from food posoning to chlamydia.

Thats not entirely true. Diet helps tho.

The biggest cuase of gout are: male, overweight, eats red meat and consumes alcohol

The uric acid builds up and gets lodged in a joint, usually the big toe. Ibuprofin and some prescription stuff can help.

Gout attacks usually happen at night and you wake up with a swollen great toe. The pain you are describing is the same. You could have a stress fracture or bone spur or a tweaked tendon.

    gl bro, hope that helps
