The New York Times is not one of my favorites. And admittedly, I don't put too much faith in anything they write, or anything that MSN reports on.
But, pictures speak loudly. Venezuela....a "champion" of a socialistic society....nationalized health care, nationalized industry, and a shell game of a political system. Still want socialism? Still want to depend on the government for survival?
I often hear the question of "What will it take to really bring about change in the US?"..... Hunger. Pure and simple. No food, no life.
Take a good look America; and attempt to understand how much food it takes to feed a country of 350 million, when the caloric demands of individuals making up nearly 2/3 of our population grossly outweigh those of the average 3 Venezuelans.
It is estimated that chaos in a US urban center is likely after only 5 days without food......So, take a good look. Forget the bank and 401k's.....Runs on the supermarket.
Pretty happy that I have experience hunting deer and elk and have a way to get food in a pinch.....oh, that is right, the federally sponsored reintroduction of grey wolves into the Northwest has decimated big game populations. Dammm it. Government intervention gets you coming and going!

Scandinavian countries are among the most successful examples of socialist countries. In modern era, every nation has some mixture of capitalism and socialism.
Venezuela's problems are mainly economic caused by government incompetence and low oil prices the country's main source of revenue.

The elite have two ways to control the masses government subsidies based on kingship mentality
The other is business by driving want and li iting supply of goods this is truly the way it works . however in free market competition between the. Merchants allows for greater. Wealth distribution. In socialized countries depending on a leader only the very inner circle can gain wealth in influence peddling. Our system may have its faults but the two parties do keep peaceful sovergn Union here and we have the market every. Company around the world wishes to engage in.

Consider the following when measuring the relative success of Scandinavian socialistic structures:
1) Population of country
2) Geographic location and land mass of country
3) Immigration policies and citizenship requirements of said countries.
I agree completely that the Venezuelan crisis is a product of depressed oil pricing and ineffective government. The government is aspiring to be socialist, and the economy is a one trick pony.
The lack of free competition and capitalistic principles within their economic structure from previous decades has severely handicapped the ability of the country's citizens to survive.
If you don't want to dance with the IMF and World Bank, I sympathize.....but when you eliminate incentive for DOMESTIC private industry through crippling taxes and government restrictions, this is the inevitable end.
Never Make A Winner A Loser. Never.

Im sorry, please abandon logical reality and forget oil prices and basic economics that drive that entire country. This is a thread about socialism not working lol

dl36- reality is what you make it. Post #6 gives you 3 factors that vary wildly from country to country in the world.
Just comparing apples to oranges.....with the resources of a nation like Venezuela, it is criminal that the citizens are starving. They owe that to the government and its philosophy.

Venezuela went through acivil war where government wanted to strip the wealth from prospererous citizens and redistribute after they were dead t9 the government. Now they all starve do to corruption of government. The drug trade has also been made to drive economic factors but no way near its oil production. Infrastructure away from costal city centers is non existing as bringing produce to market is next to impossible due to lawless. These beginning to become a ddisfun Fiona le state of dispair Anne sooner or later these ppl will be the new illegal immigrants in America.

Mind you I am not an advocate for socialism nor do I believe in extremes. So to me the best approach is a combination of socialism and capitalism that is routinely and logically adjusted for the individual country and what is going in that country.
Large sweeping extreme stances for all countries just seems silly to me. Each country has different issues and as we are seeing different sources of industry, revenue and economic factors. So it is the responsibility each country to figure out the correct balance and make adjustments over time as things change.

Scandinavia and there countries are at peace where the citizens are conditioned to pay 50% in tax to their governments as a source of pride in helping their fellow man. The Apple cart has been tipped as they try to assimilate syrian refugees and the hope is that the syrian conflict will be end and most of these citizens will wish to return back to their homeland.
