My kitchen sink is really clogged

I have a double sink in my kitchen. The left sink is bigger than the right side and they end up draining to one main pipe.

The double sinks run into the same drain pipe.  My guess would be that drain pipe is clogged usually where it bends (could be several feet from the sink).  Remove the elbow bend completely (or the tightening bands on each end of the elbow) and use a snake to remove the clogs.  Also guessing this is an older home?  No garbage disposal?

Yes, so the clog is probably in that main drain pipe where it eventually bends.  Probably 10 or 12 feet away from the sink.

Go to the dollar store and look for those cheap snakes, its likely some crap is down there that you can fish out.

Use a sulfuric acid drain cleaner. You can get it at Home Depot or Lowe's. Maybe even Walmart. It will work. Just make sure you use/make a funnel out of a water bottle or something like that so it doesn't stain your sink.. Don't get it on your hands and wear sunglasses just to be safe.  I have never had a clog that this stuff didn't work on in 15 minutes. You will probably only need like half the bottle. Cost is like 10 bucks.

Ok..I loosened the pipe pieces and drained the water into a bucket. There was still water so I took apart the bottom piece." looks like a J". There is no more water but when I stuck my fingers up and down the pipe as far as I could it was slimy and a bit gunky. It obviously needs cleaning. 

I suspect the clog is further on down the main drainpipe or the Draino / Liquid Heat / Vinegar & Baking Powder would have worked.

In any event, you'll need a Plumber's Snake to bust the blockage up wherever it turns out to be found.

Buy a new house.

The vinegar and baking soda method is actually effective in keeping it flowing good once it's all cleaned out.  Do that every month or so and your drains should be good.

Plumber & snake=problem solved.

A plumber once suggested that after you get it fixed...place a capful of bleach down the drain, the bleach will keep the drainpipe slick and nothing will stick to it

just could be a little bit of plastic in there blocking everything

one of my tenants called me out about a blocked toilet recently, turns out he flushed a plastic bag down the toilet which I found once I opened the sewer drain  

The only thing that has ever worked for me when everything else failed is Thrift Drain Cleaner. You can find it at most supply stores. it was recommended to me by a plumber who put my sink in a few years ago. He said it was by far the best chemical that he's ever seen for clogs. It's kind of expensive, but it only takes a very small amount. So a small jar goes a long ways. It's activated by boiling water and only takes about a minute to do it's job.
