These killing are not about gun control or crazy people...it's about how sensationalized the media makes these stories out to be. In two weeks, we will not remember a single name of the victims of this story, but we will always remember Adam Lanza.
Eric Harris and Dylan Kliebold are etched in our memories because of Columbine, but when I asked co-workers how many people died at Columbine, let alone the names, the answers ranged from 10 to 40.
The news outlets are the bad guys here. They are the ones that need to be held responsible. They are the ones that glorify and celebrate these individuals and look for the inner story on the accused, rather than focus on those that have lost their lives.
We are less than a year removed from the shooting at the movie theater in Aurora, CO and I cannot honestly tell you without looking it up how many people died, how many children, parents, or anything. But I can absolutely picture the accused gunman in my head. Why is that?
The answer is simple, the fuckhead news outlets are all chasing the wild rabbit of the sensational news story...the most sickening and disturbing images and recounts that will get the viewers watching and end up with more money in their pockets. That is what is wrong with the country today.
You look in the past and remember the news coverage of tragic events in the past and see the difference. When JFK and MLK were shot, when the Apollo spaceship blew up...I guarantee very few of us remember who shot JFK or MLK or who the astronauts were on that shuttle. Because the news didn't give a shit about the negative...they focused on the positive that the VICTIMS did to better this world. Fuck the people that were responsible for the tragedy, they will burn in hell forever, we as a nation need to stop worrying about that stupid crap, and start focusing on the positive.

I was thinking the same thing after this massacre at Sandy Hook.
The problem is the media has to report it and I'm no fan of the mainstream media.
Maybe it is we as individuals who are at fault. Me included. I'm like you. I'll probably never forget the name Adam Lanza, Jared Lautner, Eric Harris, and Dylan Klebold.
It is the same fascination we have with serial killers. Most of us can name five to ten serial killers off the top of our heads but cannot name one victim.

Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, David Berkowitz, John Wayne Gacy, Dennis Radar, Gary Ridgway.....
Wow, that really is off the top of my head. Sickening that I know all these despicable names. They don't deserve to be remembered. And it's very true and sad that I can't name one of their victims.

I don't know if the news outlets "celebrate" or "glorify" the killer. I mean I don't think anybody in that business gets excited about a mass shooting happening so that they can do stories about the shooter. Sure they're all scrambling to get the story sooner than the next guy but that's their job. The first time I heard this argument I agreed with it. But how do you tell a news team not to release a shooter's name? This would be a violation of the first amendment. And I really don't think anybody wants that right taken away. So what... the press shouldn't have the right to release a name in the case of murder? What about rape? Surely rape victims do not want their attacker to be famous. Just because they weren't killed they deserve lesser consideration? It's okay if we make this rapist famous because he didn't really kill anybody. Awesome.
Let's just tell the press that anytime anyone does anything against the law, his name can't be released to the public. I actually wouldn't have a problem with that if it weren't for the freedom of speech thing. That is somewhat important.
Just my two cents.
Peace.

Let me correct myself. I know there's nobody in the media that celebrates people like Lanza. They don't hold parties in his honor. Also the opening post stated that the news teams are to be held responsible for these shootings. Now I'm just guessing but I really don't think we should blame the people at CNN for the shooting in Connecticut. Let's keep things in perspective. What happened was horrible. But you know what? In the next week there's going be about 80-100 kids (21 or younger) that will die from alcohol ingestion or an alcohol related accident. Let me know how many of those are names you hear.

What I meant by having them responsible was that we are going to see another shooting like this because it's a copycat world. I'm not saying don't release the name of the accused, but not right away and don't go into their lives until after...focus on the victims.
