Just a random question i have about tipping

Lets say you and a friend go into a restaurant.  One of you orders a 50 dollar steak and a 50 dollar bottle of wine and one of you orders a 10 dollar burger and a 10 dollar beer. Based on a twenty percent tip,  the first guy should tip 20 bucks and the second guy should tip 4 bucks when the waiter did the same amount of work in bringing them out?

No, you don't split that tip in half unless your friend is a joo.

It may not seem fair, but the servers are tipped based on the amount of the bill. Smart servers work at high end restaurants, less ambitious work at Denny's. It's not that they work any less harder, but the Denny's folks aren't making the same money. 

If you can afford better food and drink, you can afford to tip more. Just lay $150 on the table and tell your buddy hes welcome. 

The waiter is getting 20% end of the night between these two, I don't understand what the deal is big timers.

Assuming the service is good, I normally tip 25% or more on smaller bills.

Many wait staff just assume there will be a 20% tip so they do the bare minimum.  If the service is bad, the tip reflects that and take nothing for granted wait staff

You could say the same thing about most jobs based on sales commissions.  

In your case are you each getting separate tabs?

All you guys have missed the point. One guy spends $100 the other spends $20. He is asking if they split the tip 50/50. No Fat Boy you are correct. You tip for the $20 only. Fuk your cheap friend.
