If Hamas just stopped firing rockets, Israel would leave them alone.

To say that "Hamas was joyful" blah blah blah is absurd, there were people who were joyful just as there are a segment of ANY population which are unsavory, it doesnt matter which population..in any group you will find good and bad and that is the case in this situation as well.
Absolutely duplicitous and you know it. Name that segment of Japan that cheered on 9/11 or brazil?  Come on. You know full well hat the guy meant. You saw video of them cheering in the streets. This is way different than 'an unsavory segment of a population'. This is the overriding theme for the extremists there---anti Israel and anti US. Very hard to swerve that fact.

Ok...how about this? How many people here were cheering when we went in and killed thousands if Iraqi civilians on our quest for a misguided invasion?

If you can't even acknowledge that Hamas was happy with 911 there is no point in discussing further. You obviously know nothing about Hamas or what it stands for. What a surprise. Hamas rejecting a truce.

Um....none?  That I know of?  Do you?  Maybe you hang with folks like that. USA people do not cheer having to do something like that...let alone cheer a complete terrorist attack. Very disappointing you would compare the two.
Quit with the misguided stuff also. Nearly all people supported intelligence except radical Left, pacifists or antiBush crowd.

Oh I know lots of people who were thrilled when we went in and invaded, BOTH times.

How is comparing people dying for bad reasons disappointing? We had no reason going into Iraq either time, it was false and people died..our soldiers and millions of Iraqi's (especially now that we let religion killing take over).

So because 9-11 was from terrorism it makes the deaths any different than from a false invasion?

I dont "hang" with any kind of crowd, but as YOU properly stated the sheep loved the invasion because the media told them to love it. Do you think that some people in other parts of the world are ALSO shaped by the media to form bad opinions?

Don't play that game mate, If you have to resort to that then you're no different from the Black guys we all love to complain about, WSC doesn't sound anti semitic or anti Jewish, He just seems to have a very unique stance on the situation which I personally don't agree with.

Huge difference between joyous that you have fought or overcome an adversary, in a war situation that you feel is necessary to being celebratory that committed an act of terror on innocent people out of sheer dogma. Please stop acting as if you don't know the difference between the two. We celebrated when WWII was over, for example. But NOBODY celebrated OKC bombing. See how that works?

Why do some people in the western world have such a hard time grasping the concept that the majority of the Islamic world hates us to bits? What is so hard to fathom? Why do some folks fight tooth and nail to prove that they don't hate us? I have had first hand experience of Muslims and whilst they will get along with you as friends, They don't want you as family, They completely disagree with our way of lives and think we are scum hence the term kuffar.

Maybe you were one of the few in the 3 groups I mentioned. But if so you were in the minority at the time. A lot of your Left leaders at the time felt the intelligence was accurate and justified going in. So very easy to nitpick and second guess now. But people at the time were okay with helping Kuwait out as well. Left are generally people with weak fortitude for things like this and that is their right. I mean there were people that were against WWII and WWI. Even after Pearl Harbor. I imagine you understand a false premise makes the rest of the argument invalid. So, yes, deaths are very different from terrorism and an invasion (false or not). There is absolutely no proof USA has ever had evil people at the top at any time that would out of pure evil invade another country. There were folks that thought FDR allowed Pearl Harbor to get us in WWII. Maybe I am wrong but I like to think better of us than anything like that. So, both times we (most folks and those in congress) felt the 'invasions' were warranted and benefited the good of Kuwait and the free world and Iraqis themselves.
Obviously deaths from terrorism is very different from deaths from wars that are unfortunately necessary for the better of the world. So can not see how you can dispute this at all.

I bolded the important parts of your comments.

What if you dont think Iraq was necessary or an adversary? I dont think they were a country or people who attacked us or provoked an attack nor that were deserving of an invasion TWICE. What Saddam did in Kuwait is likely correct, they were horizontal drilling into Iraq land to take oil..how do you think we would act if Mexico were to horizontal drill into our Texas land and take oil? We only went to Kuwait to protect Bush's interests (IMO)..when before or since have we cared two craps about Kuwait? The second invasion while you can blame intel all you want was also phony without provocation or cause.

So how is a media slanted invasion of Iraq any different than a media slanted middle east? If anything the roots of the hatred there go DEEPER and have more of a cost than us and any war we have been involved in.

I see zero difference between their slant and our slant..both are shaped by the media.

Some people (maybe you) think that others are inherently different than we are..I do not. I think genetically we are all the same..if you were to swap people at birth and 1000 of our kids in that area and 1000 of their kids in our area with identical upbringings you would get the same results. Their hatred spawns from out inherent nature to think badly sometimes and listen to media sources for causes of hatred. Their hatred are from thousands of years of fighting in that area, their families and friends being killed in that area..their religious difference and how Israel isolates themselves, takes their settlements and physically isolates themselves.

I dont fault the people there for being angry, I dont think there is a clear innocent party there at all..I think both are in the wrong, both are letting their past hatred and the media fuel their current and future hatred.

And I see ZERO difference between any one group of people and myself.

Very easy. If you are not raised in that religion or dogma, you cannot grasp the mindset.  People tend to think everyone thinks like themselves. The same reason we want them to have democracy and freedom. Because we do and think they should.  We cannot understand a dogma that promotes annihilation of all else. People also try to relate it secularly. You must put it in religious context as well to fully grasp the situation.

    Well thought out.
However I feel you are misguided.  As I stated before people want to think others are just like us. Therefore they cannot get their mind around the fact that they are not. Especially when you factor in dogma and religion. That is why we cannot relate to suicide bombings. Naturally there are many that just want to live and do well. But you cannot dismiss the large faction in that religion alone that is the overriding theme and has great influence in the mindset there.

Please don't think we would have invaded Mexico over drummed up slanted drilling charges. Please don't say that is right. Please don't consider that we would have jumped right to that. Please don't think we would have tried to take over another country. Nothing in our past has shown we would ever do that to another country.

As shown Israel has to isolate themselves??? Is that hard to get. They tried not doing it and it went very badly.Quakers, Amish, Mormons, even NeoNazis isolate themselves. No one is trying to kill them because of it!

It would be interesting to see you use this logic with any African genocide, Hitler, Putin deal, or Cannibals in Brazil.   If you don't realize any major difference (especially mindset and culture) I highly recommend you not visit Iraq anytime soon.  Sure we are all humans. But gotta remember we can't even get them to try democracy. They think different than we do. It doesn't mean all of them are evil obviously. But you have to realize people today would be vastly surprised how tricky it would be to live during, say the period of Genghis Kahn or the Inquisition or even early witch hunting days here. Even though we all have human DNA it doesn't translate to all seeing eye to eye.

WSC.  It is admirable that you apparently think the best of all humanity.

I think it is in out nature to like others and to assume, and hope, that they in return like us. We like to think that we all just want to live and let live and get along. Sometimes, as history has shown it simply doesn't work that way.

On this Middle East thing I can see we never will agree on it. But I respect that you obviously have thought it out. My question to you is this:  can you think of any other examples in history where you would have said that both sides were equally at fault?

its terrible that children and civilians are being killed in Gaza but their parents voted for Hamas who's only stated aim is to destroy Israel and Hamas have always used civilian's deaths as propaganda for their own agenda.

So people in Gaza who voted Hamas over Fatah - this is what you wanted, live by the sword, die by the sword.

the bigger picture is that arabs shouldnt be given the right to vote, look what happened in egypt, they just vote for extremist parties.

Israel just wants peace. If the government in gaza allowed it, Israel would help educate and train and even employ people. But the government would rather fight until Israel is wiped off the face of the earth. I don't know how this is going to ever resolve.

That about sums it up mr_bollox..

Hamas Palestinian's are a franchise of the Moslem Brotherhood .

The parents of those dead children in Gaza did not intervene when Hamas was placing missiles in their kindergartens, schools and other civilian locations.. and the consequence of this acceptance is the reality of piles of dead kids and civilians.

They will always hate one another it has been that way forever and will stay that way til the end of time. I am sure some old men's hearts broke when the fighting commenced last week since they had worked so hard for years to keep it calm.
I personally tend to think Israel just wants to be left alone and is very worried about killing innocents (they apparently notify the palestinians where and when they will shoot, then drop flyers the day before, THEN shoot so if people are getting killed cause they are still in the location that's getting hit I gotta wonder if they're just stupid or if govt is telling them to stay put to use them as evidence Israel is bad... I'm not palestinian so I can't relate culturally but from a will to live point of view, which I think we all share, if you tell me you're bombing my house twice, and have shown that you're not lying about it then I'm living under a bridge that day.) and would likely stop if they stopped being attacked but I think the hate is too ingrained for it to stop.

I think it was Golda Meir that said "We can forgive you for killing our children but we can't forgive you for making us kill yours."
