The terrorist attacks were by Islamic nations....we should be on the lookout for middle easterners in airports.

In "The Fugitive", Harrison Fords wife was killed by a one armed man. Now it stands to reason he would "profile" and look for such a man.

People need to stop whining. There are no easy solutions to hard problems. Yes, I'm white. I dont know what it feels like to be "racially profiled". However, I have nothing to hide and have done nothing wrong so me having/showing ID is not a problem.....heres a sample conversation.....

Police: "Can I see some ID?"

    Me: "Sure. Here you go."

Of course we all know about Rodney King and a few other incidents. Those kind of things are terrible. But wWhat about the millions of police incounters daily you dont hear about? So there are some bad cops. Big deal. Look around at your job and tell me some bad/stupid people dont work with you.

America needs to buck up. This crybaby shit is getting old.

profiling is not bad for most things... they have found a lot of serial killers, petophiles fro mprofiling.

47 million people agree you need some help with your misplaced anger issues.

Yep I asked that. So 47 million is more important than 600 million? Also, of those 47 million, how many live in Arizona and Texas? Thats where they are coming from. U stop them there and they wont be able to get to the rest of the US.

Not surprising a jayhawk doesnt have common sense

Behavioral profiling -- I'm all for that though.

Tonight, when you watch your local news, close your eyes and guess what the skin color is of the people doing the shootings, rapes, break-ins, et.al, are.

If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck.....

Bluefin:  I have lived in the South over 70 years.  I have NEVER seen anyone handcuffed and spread over the hood prior to being searched.  If you badmouth the police and call him a MF and say "You can't search me" I can understand it happening.  In the sixties I ran a little wild and was arrested a few times, I was never abused or manhandled.  I did have one promise me that he would see me in the"big house" before he retired.   I ran into him about 20 years later, he was a state investigator and I was a RN working for the state.  I told him that by now he knew that I was innocent of what they were trying to charge me with, he said "Yes but you WERE running with a bad crowd".  He said he was glad to see that I had straightened up and we parted friendly if not friends.

So, I am sure you are right in a few cases but "all the time", I disagree.  Good luck, don't get arrested.

    Train:

And your question is what?  Casting a cloud of suspicion on 47 million legal citizens is for the greater good?

That is not what this country is about, and that is why this AZ law is so wrong-headed.

Profiling in AZ does nothing to address the broad range of illegals in this country, it simply targets brown-skinned people.  And the brown-skinned people who are legal citizens would be looking over their backs at every turn.

Is it fair for the brown-skinned US citizens to have to carry proof of citizenship in their own country?  If they do not and are stopped and cannot satisfy the cops inquiry, these "citizens" will be hauled off to a holding facility until they provide proof.

Is that actually the kind of country we want...if you are brown-skinned, you are considered "illegal" till you prove it?

That is not the way to handle this issue.

    Nice writeup

The whole proof of citzenship is silly imo. I am white and I have to so proof of who I am all the time. No, it wouldnt be right for legal hispanic americans to get hauled off to jail if they didnt have proof. However, I dont think its unreasonable for them to have to carry identification just like I do.

I dont live in Arizona. However, the people that do live there obviously wanted a change. Casting the cloud isnt the real issue. Its plugging the dam where the leak is.

I dont want a country like that, but we are talking about 1 state. They arent sneaking in thru Minnesota or Oregon. Its not like this is a surprise attack. The legal hispanics know this is cmoing and can sovle 99.9% of problems by simply having ID. Is it really that difficult?

What is the way to handle this issue if this just wont do? Build a giant wall? Start shooting them if they try to cross the borfer?

I cant get into Mexico without ID.....

    Gotta side with Train here.

No this country isn't about "this" but this country was about slavery, didn't have an income tax to begin with and had prohibition too. The country changes for the good of the majority or rather should change in this manner.

I don't think there is anyone saying we need more illegals, are there? So getting rid of illegals is good for the majority of Americans. We clearly lack the balls the stop illegals at the border so fix it in the country. I have to show my ID 3 times to get into my job. Shit, my friend's green card said on the letter it came with "Always carry this with you, it is the law" which leads me to believe officials can already ask to see the thing any time since we tell the people who have Green cards to carry them with them or they're breaking the law. Why is it wrong to enforce the law?

There's a problem if there's a better solution let me know.

"What is the way to handle this issue if this just wont do?"

"There's a problem if there's a better solution let me know."

The 12 million (or whatever the true number is) illegals in the US did not come here for vacation.

They provide an incredibly cheap and mobile work force that is taken advantage of by a whole range of US businesses.

They pick your lettuce (and most everything else), which would probably double in cost if done by legals working at minimum wage...if you can find US citizens willing to do this back-breaking labor.

They put roofs on your houses working in 140 degree temps, roofs that would probably cost significantly more if paid fair construction-labor rates that a legal would get.

They wash your dishes at restaurants, make your beds at motels and landscape your yard all at rates less than what would be paid to legals to do the same work....again, can you can find enough US citizens willing to do this work?

You get "US Businesses" out of the cheap illegal labor side of the equation, you will have solved a large part of the problem.  This is evidenced by the drop in illegal immigration since 2008 when the economy went into the crapper.  Dry up the job availability, dry up the illegal applicants after those jobs.

Businesses large and small that do not get the message that an illegal work force will not be tolerated...instead of just slapping with fines, you go after the heads of those companies with criminal prosecution.  That usually gets the message delivered loud and clear.

The other part of the illegal problem is much more difficult...how to stem the flow of people into this country that are engaged in a $30 billion dollar a year enterprise of supplying recreational drugs to US citizens.

Whole different issue that will only be solved by taking the profitability out of the illegal drug trade by legalizing some recreational drugs, in conjunction with making the border secure....but this will be like herding cats..as long is there is a high-priced demand, someone will figure out a way to supply it.

I am going to have to totally disagree with you. What would happen to you or me if we were stopped for some reason in a foreign country? I can promise you they wouldn't pat us on the back, and turn the blind eye to us because we were from America. If we couldn't show them some ID and passport they would haul our ass off until they knew for certain who we were and what our business was in their country. This problem has been overlooked and neglected for years and years, and when someone finally has the balls to do something about it, everyone gets their panties in a wad. Its time for Americans to stand up, once and for all, and do whats best for Americans. Round up everyone that doesn't belong here, and get them the hell out of here. If doing this causes inconvenience, miscomfort, or embarrasment to a few, to protect the majority, then so be it. And the way I see it, any Americans that don't like it can get the hell out as well.

The issue isnt why they are here (mexico sucks), its how do we keep them out or get them out once here.

You have got this completely turned-around...this is not about having illegals proving lack of US citizenship.

This is about having American citizens (of one very particular ethnic look) prove citizenship on demand IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY. And if they do not have a wallet or purse with that proof on their person.....they are hauled off to a detainment facility because they "look illegal".

And you know what constitites looking "illegal" in this country, according to one of our elected representatives in Congress?

Shoes!   Yes, you can tell an illegal by their shoes.

    Wonderful.

The owner of the Phoenix Suns basketball team, Robert Sarver, opposes AZ's new immigration laws.  Arizona 's Governor, Jan Brewer, released the following statement in response to Sarver's criticism of the new law:

"What if the owners of the Suns discovered that hordes of people were sneaking into games without paying?  What if they had a good idea who the gate-crashers are, but the ushers and security personnel were not allowed to ask these folks to produce their ticket stubs, thus non-paying attendees couldn't be ejected.  Furthermore, what if Suns' ownership was expected to provide those who sneaked in with complimentary eats and drink?  And what if, on those days when a gate-crasher became ill or injured, the Suns had to provide free medical care and shelter?"

Profiling should be used when looking for a suspect.
If it is a law, (it is a fed law) to carry your green card, immigration status, carry the fucking thing and STFU. This is all a bullshit game played by our gutless, greedy, cowardly, corrupt, politicians.  Everything is for big business, or votes.  I'm sick of it, and will do my part to vote them OUT. It is easy to control the masses, just divide the country by race.  Even Stevie Wonder can see it.

It is easy to control the masses, just divide the country by race.  Even Stevie Wonder can see it.

Maybe there's nothing with the "idea" of racial profiling as the actual implementation of it.

The issue with racial profiling is more than simply asking for an ID.  It's never that simple.

The people who actually do the profiling are such morons, they can't even profile correctly.  Joe Schmo TSA can't tell the difference between an Arab and an Indian.
