I really dont. Profiling leading to harassment is not good, but being asked to show ID is not harassment. I have to show my ID on a daily basis and its not cause of my skin color.

We have illegals coming in from Mexico. We should be looking for/questioning Mexicans.

The terrorist attacks were by Islamic nations....we should be on the lookout for middle easterners in airports.

In "The Fugitive", Harrison Fords wife was killed by a one armed man. Now it stands to reason he would "profile" and look for such a man.

People need to stop whining. There are no easy solutions to hard problems. Yes, I'm white. I dont know what it feels like to be "racially profiled". However, I have nothing to hide and have done nothing wrong so me having/showing ID is not a problem.....heres a sample conversation.....

Police: "Can I see some ID?"

    Me: "Sure. Here you go."

Of course we all know about Rodney King and a few other incidents. Those kind of things are terrible. But wWhat about the millions of police incounters daily you dont hear about? So there are some bad cops. Big deal. Look around at your job and tell me some bad/stupid people dont work with you.

America needs to buck up. This crybaby shit is getting old.

Gonna have to agree with you, Train.

    Example:

White male, 6'0", 185 lbs, black hair, full beard, denim jacket, robs a bank and gets away.

Witnesses give input as to what the suspect looked like.  Police get a sketch together and let the public know who they are looking for and what he looks like - this would be called a "profile".

Media, citizens, law enforcement look for said suspect and reference his profile for verification.

Everyone seems to be ok with profiling in this circumstance.

That's logical, but;people that feel inferior about themselves don't want to be reminded of their insecurities. If the people complaining about profiling truly cared about this country that they sneak into or for the ones that always complain about it's constitution would obey the LAW,NO problems should arise.I obey LAW OFFICERS.Those that don't usually have something or someone illegal to hide.

I think naming a street in every city Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. is proactive profiling. It tells tourists and visitors what exit not to get off on for fuel and lodging.

I have personally been the victim of excessive police force.Deviated septum and black-eye from nightstick, while I was cuffed.I was 19,and resisted arrest.Could've sought legal recourse but decided to be a mature adult about it and simply start obeying the law and be respectful of the Police. That was 19 years ago(I'm 38),and HAVEN'T been arrested since.

So obviously you agree that profiling can be a deterrent on crime. Why not for any ethnic group then ?

So due to terrorism it's only those from the Middle East that are worthy of profiling and cool to do so? Profiling a certain ethnicity or race even though they might be the majority of the populace in a high crime neighbourhood is uncool?

Sounds like something that Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton might say.

How about a John Starks avatar dunk-answer to post 14.If you acknowledge that profiling could be effective, then why not with any ethnic group ? Crimes are being committed everyday, fella.Everyday citizens should do their civic duty by answering a law enforcement officers questioning.

Funny how you didn't include WHITES.People like you need to stop holding minorities to a lower standard of expectation.MINORITY means less in number, not less in PERSONHOOD,right ? Right ! So start thinking that way.

It would also be a deterrant to bug everyone's house with cameras and tap their phones 24/7.  That doesn't make it right.

Train....I agree. I was singled out the last time I boarded an Airplane and searched, because I wouldn't show them an ID other than my VA card. They wanted something with an expiration date.

I explained that it would expire when I did. A 64yr old Vet. GIVE ME A BREAK....Dumb Asses.

Terrorist are 18-35, not 60yr old Purple Haired women. The people that disagree with this are #1 people that never served or #2 Bleeding heart Lib.s

I don't know if its "wrong" per se, I just don't know if it is necessarily effective. If we make a claim that we will be profiling, say, Arab men at airports, al-Qaeda is many things but one thing they are NOT is stupid. The next terrorists they send over will either be African or Southeast Asian.

Behavioral profiling -- I'm all for that though.

I agree Train...since it is a known, proven fact that 90% (made that up) of terrorist attacks are commited by Muslims, then i think it is perfectly acceptable to profile, or keep an extra eye on these people at air ports and such.  It is isn't racist at all IMO since it is actually statistically proven that these people are more inclined to commit acts of terror, theres no way around that and no other way to look at it.

Honestly, if for example, the majority of terrorist attacks were commmited by white guys who have beards or some shit, i would not have a problem with the government profiling them, if it appeared they were the main threats.  Whatever keeps us safe ...
