It is so easy to wager on anything now & we are developing a new type of gambler. They are getting younger & younger. Or maybe I'm just getting older.
I foresee a huge gambling incident right around the corner. With players getting hundreds of thousands of dollars to play college football, the temptation to make even more money is intense. You think maybe these players will be tempted to share insider team info with family members or buddies?
It's going to happen if it's not happening already. We all know the dangers of chasing your money but many new grasshoppers will get to experience that anguish. Like alcoholics & drug abuse, this new gambling addiction has similar traits in common. Risk taking, lying, poor judgement & decision making are just a few.
Now you can sit back & say we've had these addictions for decades & the world hasn't ended. But I think it's different now. With today's technology, your bankroll can disappear in seconds. And that's when the real problems start. Most of us have lived it & most have survived. However, I view the new gamblers as softer, more impulsive & reactionary. They will learn that it's like an itch that can be ignored for a short period time but eventually you have to scratch it.
This addiction is also rather hidden in society. Drunks & crack hoes are easily identified but there aren't many physical tells regarding gamblers besides bags under the eyes from lack of sleep. And just like other addicts, these "new" addicts will end up alienating friends & family members, borrow money they can't pay back, negatively impact families & end up costing someone their job.
Just sayin....
