I remember stories of my grandma taking ketchup & putting it in boiling water to make soup on cold winter days. My dad never complained & he was happy to have it.

It's probably one of the reasons he made us clean our plates at dinner before going back out to play. He taught us to never have "our eyes bigger than our bellies." Finish what you have been given because you could always ask for more kind of thinking.

You can become pretty creative when you don't have much to work with.
