    hey guys

My grandmother passed away 6 months ago. In her will, for me, was a Derek jeter Rookie Card. She’s had it for me for 18 years. I’m 30 years old now. I don’t know which one it is, nothing. BUT I remember being at her house a few months before she passed ~ and she said should I give it to you now, or make you wait! And I said no grandma I don’t want it now , of course not.

Long story short. My family on my dads side  is a bunch of sneaky little slick punks. I have a feeling it was taken out of her closet. And one of my cousins now have it. That said of the family isn’t into sports AT ALL. , so I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t even know who the fuck Derek jeter was.

I keep asking my step mother to get me the card ~ and she keeps pushing it off saying she still has to close out th estate and it has to be valued etc. what the hell is taking so long? Is this normal ? I just want it because I’ve been told by my grandmother since I was 12 that I have a Derek jeter rookie card coming to me when she passes.

What should I do? Thanks !!

Welcome to the world trust, greed, ignorance and indecency.
My brother passed away at the old age of 38. He had my father's Air Force fighter pilot ring. His extreme kunt selfish worthless psycho wife has posession of it. Means nothing to her, means nothing to his sons although I'd like to tell them what it means - wouldn't appreciate it because they never met him.
World to me as his last surviving son.
Point is, is file in court and pull the estate executor to the table. I've put it off for years. Once they are served the game changes. Judges believe it or not take a real approach in these matters.

and she said should I give it to you now, or make you wait!

Under oath tell a judge that if none of them pre hearing will hand over the card that means a lot to you. Be nice, ask for the card in writing, state the facts and then file in small claims.

Is the passing of this card actually stated in a will?
Do you have any evidence, or can you prove that this card actually existed and was promised to you, other than your word or a "he said/she said" scenario?

If the answers to those questions are no, then I'm sorry but you might just be out of luck.  Given that you knew one side of your family was sneaky like that why would you not accept the card when your grandma offered it to you?  Take it as a learning experience.

Not to minimize your loss but that card is probably NOWHERE worth the money you think it is.  There are tens of thousands of Jeter rookie cards and probably only 1% are protected from package opening through the professional grading and sealing process which very substantially increases a card's value.

Let it go and move on with your life.

Has there been a reading of a will? Is this card mentioned in the will?
Is the step-mother the extr. of the will?
In my state, the extr. can not distribute anything for 7 months after probate has begun, so slow down. This is to insure that all the debts/claims of the estate have  been settled. The extr. must contact anyone who is mentioned in the will who would be a benefactor in the distribution of money/property.
If the card isn't mentioned in a will there will be a provision for the distribution of misc. property and that would be the time to plead your case,if your step-mother is distributing the misc. then you have made yourself known.
If  your family is crooked....you may be fukked.
If the card can not be located....you may be fukked.
If the will provides that misc. property is to be directed to someone
    untrustworthy.....you may be fukked.
Don't leave the card in your Truck or pawn it to play a parlay.

baseball cards went out like in the 1990s. They are not really worth anything unless you have cards from the 1960s. When the companies started printing them like they were $100 bills thats when they became worthless. You can buy ken griffey jrs rookie card for about the price when it was issued a messely $30 now and the guy is in the hall of fame. You would think his card would be worth more than that. The collector value is just not there. Heres another thing most current sports autographs are not worth a lot either unless they are the star quarterback of a superbowl team. Again most current sports autographs are a dime a dozen and only worth almost nothing. Now if you want to get into the real money of autographs just collect big name old timey movie stars like Marlon Brando or rock and roll bands like the beatles, elvis presely,Led Zepplin, and The Rolling Stones

If it was "she said I could have it" then it's a lost deal sorry

If it's written in a will then threaten to serve the papers

Like someone else said the card isn't worth anything but being from your grandmother it would nice to have. GL Works

Once again, you have no idea what you are talking about.  Just look up the sold listings of current players on ebay and you'll see.  The market was flooded in the 90's but came back strong.  The hobby is now for people who have money to burn.

That has nothing to do with what you said.  YOU said current sports autographs are worthless unless "they are the star quarterback of a superbowl team".   You have no idea what the hobby market is today.  The last 4-5 years have been a gold mine for sellers and buyers can't get enough of guys like Bryant, Correa, Judge, Bellinger, Harper, Trout etc...

THE MARKET IS WHAT YOU SELL THE CARD FOR NOT WHAT U BUY THE CARD FOR DUMMY. I ought to know sports card shops have closed up all over and card shows has not gained as much as in sales back in the 1990s. It will never comeback I ought to know I seen it for myself. You must some young squirt that thinks he knows it all.

Yes, shops closed up.  It's because of this thing called the INTERNET and EBAY.   Why go to a shop to see a limited selection when you can find hundreds of the same card or one particular card on ebay at competitive prices?  When you're doing nothing later tonight look up dacardworld.com or blowoutcards.com and look at the prices of products today.   In the early 90's the most expensive boxes were in the $50 range.  Today there are only 1-2 products UNDER that price.   Boxes go up over $1000 now for as little as 7 cards.  You have no clue what you're talking about.   I sell over $1,000 a month on ebay worldwide and I'm a small timer.

Then the executor is legally required to get that card to you. Write a friendly letter asking for your card. No response... file.

Wow, sounds like you have a lot of experience. I'd like to get something special from Mike Trout for a youngster. Maybe you have a suggestion on something that would appreciate over time.

His low end product autos go in the $200 range.  Higher end stuff $400+.    One of his Rookie Card parallels sold for $35,000 over the summer.   There are some decent priced non-auto options for him but if you want some more ideas PM me sometime and I can help find something nice without breaking the bank

Yeah ~ well this card just means something to me since she’s been holding onto it for 20 years for me. It’s the only thing that I’ve have left of her physically.
