I hate the idea of 8. There have been very few semifinal games that have been competitive. We can't get 4 worthy teams this year
But that shouldn't be a reason not to expand, that's another problem all on it's own.
Right, but when the same 6-7 teams are constantly in the top 4 every year, where do you think all the recruits are going to go? Making the playoff top heavy just creates more imbalance in talent between the teams. Expanding it will give more teams a chance to make it and get more national exposure.
Also, while a lot of the semi-final games have been lop-sided, we are still working with a really small sample size on that. By your thinking then let's just go back to two teams, SEC Champ vs. whoever the media has hyped the most. It's not going to fix itself overnight for sure.
Basketball has the right recipe, and football refuses to follow it, even though they can. The rise of the mid-majors have made the NCAA Tournament even better (Butler, Wichita, Creighton, Gonzaga, et al) and it's helped spread the talent more evenly making for a lot more parity and definitely a lot more teams with a chance to win it all.

Agree, no sense having a semifinal or quarterfinal game where the spread is 3TDs.
I know this is logistically and financially improbable, but they need to go to a "flex" playoff. There needs to be a standard for what is considered worthy. Then take between 2 and 8 teams that meet the standard. if there are 6 teams then 2 get a bye...

Heard the idea somewhere - why not do away with the conference championship games and add a round (i.e. going to 6 or 8 teams) to the playoff. For starters, there is no way conferences do that...they would be unwilling to give up the from their championship games. This weekend is essentially just a playoff round anyway...8 of the Top 10 are playing in championship weekend, but it certainly sucks that the committee decides who advances instead of decided on the field. Hopefully, we get to 6 or 8 soon b/c 4 is too narrow a field...6 or 8 would be perfect...going back to 11 game regular season seems reasonable to allow for this. Anyway, as far as the scenarios, I agree with the majority of the posters above...we all know what happens if UGA beats LSU, assuming chalk though, I'd agree Okie gets in over Utah. Even though I think Utah is the much better team (and i'm sitting on a Utah to make the playoff future ticket), the B12 is a tougher conference and I'm guessing the committee overlooks the narrow wins Okie has had recently and just focuses on SOS. Also, just for more new blood it would be nice to see Utah or Baylor get in. I think ideal match-ups for us fans would be OSU vs. LSU and Clemson vs. ?? Utah. That honestly might be best...don't think Hurts would be able to deal w/ Clemson Def...balance attack and defense of Utah might be more of a challenge for them. Maybe i'm drinking too much Utes kool-aid.
Agree with going to a 8 team playoff based on seating, granted #1 vs. #8 probably a blowout but you never know. The #1 seed should have the best avenue to win the title. As for the "If LSU wins, I would give the nod to the B12 especially if Baylor win because their only loss would be Oklahoma, a top ten team in the country where as the Utes only lost would be USC. Of course, if Utah loses tomorrow then we are talking B12 champion to make the playoff.
