i agree!  i accepted this long ago... i tell my friends all the time, we will never have a playoff system...

but accepting the reality of it does not mean that i accept the reasoning of it... the reasons are all ass-backwards thinking from mental defects...

so if we can't ever get a playoff... i will at least shine a light on their idiocy for being the reason we don't get it...

Banging the drum loudly in those yrs make more sense and the debate more lively, just not this yr as there won't be any real injustice.  I'd like to think that the vast majority agree that the only team can keep it close against LSU is Bama (assuming LSU wins Sat) so let them battle it out.

Going to an 8 team playoff system will not stop the argueing either as there will be people that didnt think the 7th or 8th team should have gotten instead of another team.

To tell you the truth I think they like it this way because then they get people talking everywhere about the BCS for 4 months!!

Good point.Solid marketing ploy. What better way to keep yourself fresh than to have people like us debate their product with vigor every year.

you will get endless arguments as to why we.... really don't need a play-off ...

why?...because we are a nation of person...that discourages and is afraid of competition....
so the BCS makes perfect sense!....as this is exactly....what it is about.

that Dan Wetzel (Yahoo)....has it figured out....

i like you GM... but how can you really say this?

think about it... we have a 3-team dilemma, right... LSU, OSU and Alabama... you are saying there would be no injustice, IF OSU beats OU, LSU beats UGA, and the NC ends up being LSU - Alabama... considering the following facts:

    • of the 3 teams, OSU played the toughest schedule this year
    • LSU and OSU both have to play in conf championships this week, but Bama doesn't
    • Bama lost their only truly high-profile game of the season at home

you know what really sucks, and what nobody is talking about... the REASON Alabama was ranked #1 at the start of the season by a lot of people... is because they aren't voting for who they think is the best... they are MAKING A PREDICTION (don't believe me... just go look at the sportswriters who vote in those polls... their polls match their publications, and their reasoning for their polls often is based on how they think they will END UP!

so people looked at Alabama's soft schedule, particularly seeing that their two toughest games (LSU and Arkansas) would both be at home... and PREDICTED Alabama would have the best shot at finishing the year #1...

and NOW they are being rewarded for that prediction!  because people created an a priori bias that Bama was the best team ahead of time, and are now saying, "It doesn't matter what they did against their opponents or how easy it was for them to go 10-1... we KNOW they are the 2nd best team"...

read what Bookie wrote... is THAT what competition is about?  getting a free fucking pass?

man, i say THIS without 100% conviction... if I were an Alabama fan, i would be fucking ashamed of this situation, and would be hoping to GOD they don't get in... because this is the exact OPPOSITE of everything sports competition is about...

it is an affront to college football and it's fans to let this shit continue... and yet some of you have been so brain-washed by ESPN with these ridiculous arguments, that you will actually jump behind them and help fight their battle...

if that's not insanity, it's pretty fuckin' close...

to some of you who say things like "everybody thinks you're an idiot" and that kind of crap... let me explain a little reality to you...

if you are a human being living in the world today, and you express an opinion... if 90% of the people don't disagree with you, then you're probably an idiot, and you're probably wrong!

    OSU v. LSU schedule -
    LSU wins v. #2 Bama, #6 Ark, #8 Ore,  ~ #14 GA, #22 WV
    OSU wins v. ~ #15 OU, #16 KS, #19 Baylor
I think LSU has by far the tougher schedule and more importantly, the only close game so far is Bama.

    OSU v. Bama schedule -
    Bama win v. #6 Ark
I agree that OSU has played a better schedule but what I can't get out of mind is how dominating Bama has been.  One can reasonably say Bama has outplayed its opponents in EVERY game this yr, with all except 1 being totally outclassed by Bama.

Penn State: Down 27-3 w/ 2 min left
    Ark - Down 31-7 w/ 11 min left; 226 total yds
FL - 222 yds; 15 rushing yds on 29 attempts (Yes, some of that is skewed cause of 3 sacks but that's still ridiculous)
    Vandy - Shutout; 190 yds
Miss - 7 pts; 141 yds and 59 of that came on one play in game 1st series
    Ten - 2 FG; 155 yds
    Miss St - 7 pts; 131 yds
    GA Southern - Uh...
    Aub - 14 pts (2 TD's were sack/fumble recover and 83 yd KO return); 140 yds

I can safely say Ark would have put up a MUCH better fight against OSU.

We all know their defense is stout but their offense is not too shabby.  If you take out LSU game, Bama ave 39 pts.

IMO, Bama would beat OSU 7 out of 10 times cause beyond the #'s, they have real talent as shown by # of players going to the next level and making an impact.  I'm guessing OSU has Blackmon and then big drop off to maybe Adcock and Weeden.  I can see Bama talented secondary holding Weeden intact but I don't see OSU 186 rushing YPG defense having much luck against Trent.

OSU next game kind of tell me where OSU is as they're only ~ 3 pts fav at home at nite against team w/o its best player.  Bama home field adv is so good so I won't use that scenerio but I'll venture to say they're TD+ fav against OU on neutral field.  BTW - I'm no OSU hater as I have a bet on them against OU placed 3 wks ago at pick-em.  Full disclosure - May middle w/ nice OU + 3 1/2.

Your reason about Bama being ranked #1 is legit but IMO, it was that Def that have Bama ranked so high.  They were already talking about this being Saban's best Def team before season started and he has had really good def teams.

Is a play-off more legit?  Yes, but we'll still end up w/ same 2 teams.  I'm "defending" BCS this yr cause there are 2 teams that are just better than everyone else.

D is ranked so high because, this year, and due to Bama's schedule, they played a bunch of absolute shit offenses outside the Hogs at home..

What makes you think Bama will struggle against good offenses?

It's more than how you do against bad teams, it's the talent behind the team.  Let me put it another way, Boise State both have 1 loss this yr and last w/ very much same sched, but is there any doubt that last yr team was better!  Why, bc they have talent!!!

Let me take it a step further, if the very same def Bama players are on BSU and they undoutedly dominate (just like Bama) playing BSU sched, are you going to say they're not good bc they play shitty offenses?

Even a 4 team playoff would be better than what we have now..at least more teams would have a shot of proving it on the field…

The "every game in the regular season is a playoff," mentality is pretty idiotic, but every championship team faces some “must win” games…

Winning a conference doesn’t automatically qualify a team for the Championship game but it does work as a kind of playoff. The LSU/Bama game was a “must win”. In the NFL the 2 best teams may be in the same conference but only one of them is going to go to the Superbowl. Alabama had to win that game..they had the advantage, they were playing at home and went to OT….but they failed to get it done when they needed it.

…just because a team belongs to the SEC doesn’t mean they deserve a title shot. I get tired of SEC cockiness and arrogance. Immediately after playing LSU the Alabama players were still claiming to be the best team in the country and that they WOULD play in the BCS championship…that doesn’t seem like a championship team to me. A championship team wins when it has to…it doesn’t get a 2nd chance.

Let’s give Boise another chance…let’s give Stanford another chance…let’s give Houston another chance…

Oh wait!!! Those teams didn’t win the game they really needed and failed to get a conference championship. Houston wasn’t really eliminated because they weren’t going to be considered, but you could argue that Boise and Stanford had a shot if they went undefeated and won their conferences.

OSU did lose to a team they should have annihilated but it didn’t really matter . They came back and won their conference..OSU played every team in their conference and had one bad game. They won when they needed it and they won convincingly.

I would prefer to see teams play rather than win a popularity contest, but really…which team came through when it counted and which team felt that it wasn’t important to prove it on the field?

What's most likely to happen re the BCS:

There will not be a playoff.  In the near future.  And maybe not ever.  Forget that the system doesn't work for you.  It works for them.  The schools, the conferences, the networks, the bowls.

They will decentralize the BCS.  It will survive to establish 1 vs. 2 and then the rest of the bowl games will be free agent picks.  Why?  Too many non-AQ schools taking up lucrative spots.  This way they can eliminate the need to include the Houstons of the world and say it was the bowl's decision.  Thus, no lawsuits.

If anything that will put us further from the mythological playoff.  They do not care that most people want a playoff.

Been saying BCS Sux all year.

    Is BS.

OSU's overall body of work is better than Bamas period.

And more than likely we are gonna see Bama and LSU play again.

LSU has already proven they are better than Bama. Why do we need to see it again?

    Give OSU a shot!

Computer rankings that use questionable data and unverified "proprietary" algorythms combined with opinon polls from people that don't even watch the games=the BCS "system"

The conferences don't want a playoff...but there seems to be a surge in support for changing the system..

An "expert" committee seems to work for the NCAAMs tournament..

as long as all the teams know what criteria is being used, we could have some kind of true championship..

The pressure for change is there. The conferences just have to see that a truly competetive Nat'l title is what CFB needs.

The pressure for change is there. The conferences just have to see that a truly competetive Nat'l title is what CFB needs.

I find your continuous call for logic and reasoning in selecting Oklahoma State laughable. Here is simple logic:

No Team has ever lost to a 6 loss team in the regular season and played for a national championship.

Oklahoma State lost to a  loss tema in the regular season.

Therefore Oklahoma State cant play for a national championship.

    Thats how logic works

That kind of logic is called sophistry

"a method of argumentation that seems clever but is actually flawed or dishonest"

The flaw is the assumption that because something has never happened means that it can't happen. It is simply a meaningless stat

You could also say that no 2 teams from the same conference have ever played for a national championship, therefore LSU and Alabama can't play for a national championship.

Obviously not true. I just don't want to see that game again.
